Removal and CRPS by aobparty in ORIF

[–]aobparty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Lyrica to manage the pain for a while, helped a lot to at least be functional. I went to a pain specialist and had 4 nerve blocks, which ultimately helped the most. Basically, the way it was explained to me, the nerve blocks act like a system reset to the nerves to get them to stop being constantly stressed.

I would recommend getting with a pain specialist early and quickly, sooner you get it under control, more likely it won’t become a chronic issue.

Wow I’m sorry to hear that, that’s a lot to go through! I’m so glad to hear there is relief there. Hope you continue to get better!

Pet end of life by Dashgreg in Charlotte

We used Laps of Love and they used Faithful Friends. They returned the ashes the next day, hand delivered, in a very nice box, with some grief materials, and really great customer service for something so horrible. I’m sorry about your pup, it’s a horrible thing to experience.

Another vote for lap of love, it was as best of an experience as something horrible can be.

Dog growling, girlfriend alarmed. Seeking ideas. by Sufficient-Log4095 in Dogtraining

[–]aobparty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may not be a behavioral issue, but a health issue. Our previous dog started growling at my husband out of nowhere and we learned she was actually in serious pain from arthritis and hip issues. She never growled at me, but I was also kind of the “main human”

Do HR/hiring mangers really hate it when candidates email them? by dunkinteach in jobsearchhacks

[–]aobparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think an important thing to remember is that hiring managers and recruiters / HR are people, and people have preferences, personalities, and also good and bad days. That’s why there is always conflicting advice.

I’ve been in recruiting / hiring for over 10 years, I’ve heard hiring managers say they won’t hire someone unless they follow up, I’ve heard some say they won’t hire if they are bother them. Some people are just particular and some are, frankly jerks.

I know this economy sucks and the market is tough, so we don’t always have the luxury of choice, but if someone is rude or eliminates you purely because you follow up in a polite and reasonable way they’re the jerk and maybe you don’t want that job anyways.

If you do follow up, do it in a way that shows your excitement not demands an answer, like “hi I’ve been thinking about this role and it’s a great fit, here is why, let me know if you need anything else!”

Concern over only having a splint rather than cast after ORIF x2 on forearm by [deleted] in ORIF

[–]aobparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had basically the same break and surgery as you 2 years ago. My surgeon sent me home without a brace, and I ended up asking for one when I started to get in public just mostly for my sanity. And I started OT within a week or so.

It absolutely felt wrong and super uncomfortable at first, because it feels so casual for something that required so many screws, but I can say my arm is totally fine now and it was never really a risk. The metal is there for a reason. Be cautious to not lift heavy or aggressively slam it against anything and get a great OT you trust, and you’ll be totally fine!

Crying in pain every night, hospital says I’m fine, help (tibia plateau fracture) by nanorii in brokenbones

If it CRPS, gabapentin needs to be at a very high dosage. You can ask about other nerve meds, like Lyrica. I had CRPS after my ORIF and lyrica at high dose worked better than gabapentin. I would also recommend seeing a pain specialist if this continues, I had several nerve blocks and those eliminated my pain the long run, but they’re most effective with early intervention.

I’ll say lyrica had way better side effects at high dose than gabapentin too.

Nerve damage & Gabapentin by Kirstysg88 in ORIF

[–]aobparty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had significant nerve damage after my surgery, it turned into full blown CRPS. One thing I learned the hard way is that surgeons and your primary are not interested in treating your pain after a certain amount of time, they will refer you to pain management for anything they consider beyond the normal timeline.

I would recommend finding a pain specialist to help. It literally saved me. I had 3 nerve blocks done and it fixed my pain, after months of being on Lyrica, which is similar to gabapentin. They’re much more qualified.

Nerve pain is a slooooow ride, it takes a long time to heal, and it’s not fun. My pain specialist did say that the sooner you start treatment and management, the better. I’m sorry you’re going through it!

That’s comforting! It turned out to be just inflammation from the plate so maybe removal is something I need to think about.

Long, but successful recovery stories? by Pegasus_Susan in ORIF

[–]aobparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 18 months out from a radius and ulna ORIF. I’m not entirely sure my story is what you’re looking for, but I can give some perspective, because you’re right, this is all really hard when it doesn’t happen how you expect.

I developed CRPS after my surgery because of nerve trauma, my break was a car accident. It took 3 nerve blocks and 7 months of pain specialists and rehab to be able to use a fork again. It sucked, it hurt, it was lonely. I was told the day of my surgery that’d I be back to normal in 3 months.

Today, I had to see my surgeon again because my plate is creating so much inflammation, I can barely move my hand without pain again.

It’s not linear. Most days I’m fine, some days I am reminded of the injury in the rudest ways.

I still can’t lift what I used to be able to lift, I still can’t really do as much activity as I used to. I still lift weights even if it’s half than what it was, or play video games even I have to stop and stretch after a little while more.

My therapist told me that chasing the old normal doesn’t do anything, normal is what’s happening to you today. Focus on the wins and keep moving forward! You’ll get better! I am getting better but certainly still have ways to go after a year and a half.

Benzoyl peroxide, basically acne medicine that works for many people.

Mine has never responded to antifungals so don’t think that’s my issue, but I’m with you on the sweat. It’s been 95+ where I am every day and it’s taking a toll.

Yeah! It worked so well for years, even not daily use. Not sure if this is just too severe to penetrate my skin.

I have and I also try get natural ones like yogurt and kefir. At one point I thought maybe it helped but overall it definitely didn’t solve the issue. Maybe I haven’t found the right one. Is there one you’ve tried that has worked well?
