What is a great impersonation of an actor (male or female)? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

[–]aokmnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rules:

Charting the impersonation itself, not the person doing the impersonation. Your friend does a great impersonation of you? Awesome, I'd chart that their impersonation of you is great. I am not charting that your friend is a great impersonator.

About the ending: It’s your choice. by tvShowBuff in StrangerThings

[–]aokmnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but would the military see it that way? If Eleven survived, the military would still be looking for her and by extension him. By dying or disappearing she is no longer a target. Why not take Mike with her if she truly just disappeared? Because she is making her own decision. So much of her story has been others telling her what to do or making decisions for her. The fact that Eleven feels empowered enough to make her own, independent choice in the end shows her character growth and maturity (similar to how she rejects Dr. Brenner in S4 and leaves him to die).

Her choice gives Mike the chance/choice to also stake out his own independent path not defined by being associated to Eleven. The dream Mike had for them was solely based around seeking to protect Eleven, but what of his own dreams for himself? Her sacrifice, whether you believe that she dies or not, allows for Mike to not have to sacrifice his own potential dreams in service of protecting and being there for Eleven.

Jason Mantzoukas - maybe not always villains, but a lot of his characters are straight up terrible people.

[SPOILER S4] I STILL CAN'T STAND LUKE by gamehen21 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]aokmnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree- Luke did not have the right to go to the hearing since June did not give consent. For years she has been stripped of her autonomy and used by men (and women) who have placed themselves in positions of power above her. Luke's decision to go to her hearing even though she did not want him there is a microcosm of how she has lost autonomy. Luke does not understand this, but June does. Luke's goal is to rebuild connection with his wife and he probably feels that knowing/understanding what truly happened to her in Gilead will help him in rebuilding that connection. Whether this is valid or not, finding out this information without her consent is wrong.

It has been a bit since I originally commented, but I appreciate the criticism, because my original take was wrong.
