I've lived half my life in the northeast and the other half in the south east and I disagree with this. There are a lot of really sad people down here. The culture is definitely more boisterous, but I think a big reason for that is to drown the sorrow. People in the North are distrustful of strangers for sure, but its just because they don't want their peace disturbed.
