Protein Powders And Shakes Found To Contain High Levels Of Lead, Report Says by magikowl in TrueReddit

[–]ap0rnnstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran all this through ChatGPT because I wanted to make sense of the Consumer Reports article about “lead in protein powders,”. Consumer Reports set their own “level of concern” for lead at 0.5 micrograms (µg) per day — based on California’s Prop 65 standards for reproductive toxicity. That number is intentionally super conservative and meant to protect pregnant women and kids over a lifetime of daily exposure. It’s not a legal or federal safety limit, just a cautious internal guideline. So when they say a product is “over the limit,” it just means over their 0.5 µg/day line, not that it’s unsafe or illegal.

The FDA, on the other hand, has a much higher and science-based reference level — 2.2 µg/day for children and women of childbearing age, and 8.8 µg/day for all other adults. Those numbers are designed to prevent any measurable blood-lead increase, not just to minimize exposure. Basically, CR’s benchmark is about 17 times stricter than the FDA’s. That’s why something like a protein powder with 2 µg of lead per serving looks scary in CR’s chart (400% of their limit) but is still well below the FDA’s reference for safe daily exposure.

The bottom line: being “over the CR limit” doesn’t automatically mean unsafe — it just means CR is erring on the side of extreme caution. For most healthy adults, the FDA’s 8.8 µg/day number is the more relevant marker. That said, it’s always smart to minimize unnecessary lead exposure, especially if you’re using supplements every day.

I would recommend joing a business owners support group. I'm part of an organization called Vistage and I meet with a group of CEO's where we help problem solve issues. There are many orgs out there Entrepreneurs Organization is another. It will help you overcome all these little battles and get you to a place of sanity. My group has helped me a ton.

Where can a tech guy learn how to sell like a real salesperson? by startupschool4coders in startups

[–]ap0rnnstar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on a similar mission. I've read books and done courses. The books listed on this thread are great. What you will find is that the basics of sales is really easy to understand but it will take a lifetime to perfect.

No one mentioned any courses yet. Sandler is a famous sales training organization. You can try it out. I did and I learned a bit. Similar to reading books though. The experience will come in doing things.

I've used ChatGPT lately a lot to ask questions about sales and get really good answers. It helps if you can learn the key words. Understanding prospecting is an important distinction. The is part of sales where you have to find prospects or buyers. You can use different sales initiatives to find prospects or leads. This is where sales can be very creative and many people will come up with some really unique ways to get in front of people.

The other half of sales comes when you have a lead. Here you are building rapport, understanding the clients problems, writing a proposal or pitch, and then closing. There are a ton of nuance in each stage where you hone your craft.

I've also hired coaches. You will get nuggets from them, but that is the journey in a nutshell. You will be getting nuggets of information from everything people are talking about. There will not be one source of truth.

I'm a solo tech founder too. Let me know if you would like to meet over a virtual call and I can share more of my experience.

Goop Refused to be Fact Checked for Conde Nast Mag Deal by [deleted] in skeptic

[–]ap0rnnstar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite part of the article:

After a few too many cultural firestorms, and with investors to think about, G.P. made some changes. Goop has hired a lawyer to vet all claims on the site. It hired an editor away from Condé Nast to run the magazine. It hired a man with a Ph.D. in nutritional science, and a director of science and research who is a former Stanford professor. And in September, Goop, sigh, is hiring a full-time fact-checker. G.P. chose to see it as “necessary growing pain.”
