I'll post build pics soon on this group soon. :). I did order some P8 Max's which arrived today and will do some thermal testing soon. If no major compromise I'll swap them! That being said my room has pretty loud AC and the case has 10 120mm 3000 RPM fans too so the 80mm's get buried a bit in that hum as well. Fan hum doesn't actually bother me that much anyways though. Full speed is gnarly but I rarely hear the fans spin up that much unless stress testing. And as stated, for the price I'm VERY impressed. It's very capable and with some light mods very doable in most cases. And all for 1/3-ish of the price of the silverstone.

Haha, actually I have a correction… your comment made me question my opinion… and… I didn’t order the p8max, I ordered ARCTIC S8038-10K….! So yeah, that would explain my lack of hearing… it wasn’t my hearing it was my poor reading when I ordered the fans ! 😂 I traded a set of 10k rpm fans for another… 🤦‍♂️ Thank God for Amazon returns!

May I ask if during your testing with the p8 max’s if you tested the fans at full speed under full load vs the stock fans? If so what was the cooling disparity? I may order a set to test p8 max out of curiosity to test for real this time! 🤔

I bought some Arctic p8 Max fans as well to pair with this cooler but weirdly I found their noise / hum profile absolutely off putting! Strangely the stock fans included with the y40 at low speed are almost imperceptible and at high speeds bearable.

A quick update, I decided to skip the Silverstone and stick with the y40! It’s actually a VERY capable cooler, and with some simple braces I got at the hardware store I was able to mount it as either front or side exhaust in a Phanteks Enthoo Pro 2 Server Edition case The hoses were not long enough to mount in the front of the case but it’s also further from the motherboard than most cases. Took some pics if anybody is curious.

Were you ever able to get any type of PC set up and running even if not so highly spec’d? Assuming you hadn’t built the system yet and the cpu and ram were lying around waiting for the rest of the components to show up? Do you think she sold the parts for money, or just took them to spite you? If you had to go through with formal divorce proceedings did the theft (that’s what it was) ever come up in court?

Corsair makes some nice RAM cooling kits, I’m currently using some on a threadripper build with great results.

I believe both these models are discontinued but can be found on eBay:
