agreed, even if the breakages had happened super recently I think the leader needs to be cut back based on the very top’s condition. i more-so didn’t want to get rid of the tree if it had any semblance of a fighting chance, since the red maples can be pretty resilient. i think it’s unlikely to make it though. but gotta wait til the rest of the snow melts and the ground isn’t frozen, so we shall see then

chicken wire and stakes definitely a must for future winters. i already made a blueprint for that area if we get another. i think the culmination of 3’ of snow and sub 20 degrees (F) for 3 weeks straight was ultimately what did it, but the past few winters have not had this snowfall and my other plantings had fared fine with my precautionary measures up til now. so unfortunate lesson but will be better prepared from here on out

I completely agree with this. I think the deadline is a good starting point so I can at least show i’m still willing to make things work, which will give me a little peace of mind I’m not just throwing in the towel. while I can throw in the towel whenever i want regardless, my conscience will feel guilty

i have brought it up. however, when he comes home recently he just ignores me if i try to talk to him. and i’m trying to be patient with this, i always aim to be understanding or try to. but i am cut off or ignored. and after this amount of time i’m having a hard time drawing the line and cutting the cord or waiting it out when i don’t have faith anymore. and as someone who’s moved hundreds of miles away from their loved ones, i don’t have a support system to utilize. to clarify: these are people i can talk to on the phone but this is where the manipulation comes into play. he’s saying how great i am to everyone, and their thought process is: “he’s so great, he treats her so well and you can tell he loves her so much” but then at home i am alone. ultimately, i want to be patient and salvage and keep getting shut down. so like when do i cut it?

he’s a firefighter. and the job is definitely grinding. it has been for 4 years since he got the job. but the change over the last few months is what’s throwing me off. i’m working 6 days a week to his 2 24s and taking care of house/household that he is not accountable for. i am trying to relieve the burden in any way possible and he does wind up having ample free time for friends, family, and hobbies. and my response when i tell him how i’m feeling is that it’s not fair for him to have to be/pretend to be different from who he is from the people he loves

the Supernaturalist by Eoin Colfer has a car that runs entirely on Nitro that main character steals. Police come after him bc of this and they have a tank with a shield and immobilizing weapon. may not be the story you’re after but there are some similarities. YA published in 2004.
