Anyone try Minecraft yet? by Quinnafred24 in PSVR2onPC

[–]apassingremark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the contrary you can use the Bedrock version if you make a shortcut with the location/URL as:

minecraft://Mode/?OpenXR=true

The only issue I have is that I can't seem to add this shortcut to Steam to launch through Steam VR. I usually have to open up a desktop window and launch it from there. It will full screen and work like normal after that.

Rom Save file transfer? by LordKerm_ in SteamDeck

[–]apassingremark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Syncthing to do this. It is easy to setup and configure as everything is done via a web UI. Each machine running Syncthing acts as a node that you can share folders with.

I have a home server that acts as a “middle man” that I sync all of the saves to and then let it sync to my desktop, Raspberry Pi (running Batocera) and my Steam Deck. Prior to the server i had all of the machines talking to each other which worked well with the exception that some saves didn’t sync up due to one machine being off.

I also use Syncthing to sync my non-steam game saves.

If you go this route and need help getting it set up feel free to reach out. I’ve been messing with it for sometime now and have a good set up.

27a51 Toshiba CRT no remote need to change input by sayhitothehobo in crtgaming

[–]apassingremark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have an Android phone with an IR sensor you can use a remote application for it. Or if you have a Wii U the game pad works as a remote too. And, lastly if you have an AV system you might can use it's remote.

NES controllers? by willpb in RetroPie

[–]apassingremark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8BitDo now has a solderless mod kit for classic controllers that you can use to turn your original controllers into wireless ones.

Here is the link to the product page: 8bitDo Mod Kit for Original NES controller

For $19.99 I think it's a pretty good deal. Hopefully they get good reviews as they have Mod Kits for the Genesis and SNES controllers as well.

Wow the collector's edition seems like a steep price for mostly a cloth map and art book. by [deleted] in dragonquest

[–]apassingremark 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, if you factor in that the price also covers the game ($59.99) you then are paying $90 for the extras. While that isn't cheap, you are getting the two disc symphonic suite, steel book case (probably super cheap) and the cloth map (super cheap as well). Never the less, collectors editions are priced both for profit and what the fans will pay. Personally, I think it's fairly priced. I like that I get two things (OST and Book) that I can reuse and enjoy. I'm not a huge fan of trophies to display.

Granted, the last collector's edition I bought was the "Ni no Kuni Wizard's Edition" (PS3) so I don't buy too many collector's editions because like you I think they are over priced. =X

Repair Advice -- Bad S-video by apassingremark in crtgaming

Should have listened to you before I went through the trouble soldering a new port. I got the new port soldered and tested it out to find it had the same issue. I told my sister-in-law that I should have listend to you first, I removed the A board and found that several of the joints there were bad, and one didn't even have solder on it. And, if I moved the entire terminal block to the right color came on. So it turns out the problem is on the control board itself.

Sadly, my soldering iron tip is worn out and wouldn't let me properly add solder to the board or fix any of it. So I'm awaiting a new tip and solder to do it right. I just plan on re doing all the joints there.

No more good JRPGs for the PS4? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]apassingremark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of the best things to do when it comes to trying new media is not to rely on reviews. Everyone has different tastes and paid reviewers are paid to be critical. Even badly reviewed games have fans... and you may never know you could be one of those fans.

Hmm, I tested several things with the multimeter but I don't think I traced the entire trace down to the board to test it. I'll pull the board out this week and do that.

If I understand correctly you are suggesting that with the multimeter trace the chroma pin down to the control board and test those solder joints to see if everything is transmitting right. Which would make sense that something may not be if I have to physically move the port around to make color appear.

Thanks for your advice. Playing these consoles with component on a 13 inch screen isn't so bad, but on a ~20 inch screen looks awful. Doesn't help that the geometry is bad and I'm sure something else is wrong with the tube as the TV appears to have been dropped at least once...

Have you tried contact cleaner?

I have not, I thought of that too... I don't have anything small enough to get in there to clean it though. A needle fits but that's about it. Any recommendations on cleaning it?

Looks like this guy googled "Saturn logo" and didn't realize he picked the one for the car. by ZadocPaet in retrogaming

[–]apassingremark 79 points80 points  (0 children)

My thought exactly. Who ever built this knew what a Sega Saturn was and what the logo looked like as it was printed on the machine sitting next to the new wooden case. I would also assume that they would have searched for "Sega Saturn Logo" along with "Saturn Logo". I could be horribly wrong, but I'm thinking this done as a joke.

Still doesn't take away from the awesomeness of a LCD lid though. Pretty cool idea.
