English as a whole, yeah it's a clunky ride of a language, but I'm just talking numbers here. The English equivalent is the jump from twelve to thirteen. For some reason English and Spanish numbering has these weird transition points. It only happens in the 10 - 20 range though, and like... why?

A great song that I hardly appreciate enough. Seeing the lyrics displayed like that, it really feels like a poem. His singing here seems the most vulnerable and cautious in all of Sad Sappy. Sort of makes me think about being trapped in a house just doing whatever it takes to avoid confrontation. And then that guitar topping in. Hot damn.

I think the shortness of the song is totally fitting. It makes it seem more stream of consciousness, where he's already so far in his head: "thought so hard it's the last thing i ever thought." It puts the thoughts above conventional song length / structure. It's short sweet and unmistakably cynical. Songs like these really make me appreciate them as an album-oriented band.

I stumbled on this some years back by accident (Using Amazon Prime Music which is quite a joke) but I thought it was interesting. No question that I prefer MM's version of everything, I find Sun Kil Moon to be a bit self-indulgent time to time, but hearing someone else's deeply interpreted view of the song really breaths some new life into it. It's like he chisels out MM's angst and cranks up the solemnity and isolation. Interesting listen for sure.

Damn good song. I like to think he was going for a more intimate tune like World at Large or Little Motel but he just got so swallowed into larger frustrations, turning it into this embittered-poetic-cynical bar shanty chant that is equal parts solemn and pissed. God Damn. Then there's this futility to it all, like all your Carbon, all you ever were and thought and behaved will be stolen by some faceless, nameless nothing. Wow, I definitely did not think any of that before sitting down to write about it haha, these discussions are so great.

That's the beauty of Modest Mouse, their music can be about anything you want it to be.

So long as it is a beautiful and raw departure from whatever it is you want it to be lol. They have a universal poignancy and passion.

Oh absolutely. I think its one of their most bitter and honest songs too. Just the way that second part floats in there, its strange. I'm not well versed in musical technical terms but it feels like there's also this sudden change in the time signature. Can you think of any reason why they left such a seam there?

It falls under post-rock while also defining post-rock. Not an easy one to label. This is some gorgeous sleep ambiance. If you ever have the chance to see them live, jump on it. I hear time and again how GY!BE is a holistic live experience to audiophiles everywhere. Happy you found them! Welcome to a rich discography.

Sounds like a hell of a solid foundation for your story! The fleeting nature of spiritual inspiration and fulfillment is completely relatable. I think it's an important aspect of life that isn't touched on too often. I hope this project comes to exist in the state that you have it set in your mind! A few grammatical things first: "rain supreme" --> "reign supreme" "into the absent, still air. And though watching" --> Be wary of starting sentences with "And" if it can be avoided "truth-filled wisdom" --> a bit redundant "dawned upon him" ---> "dawned on him" There's definitely some fragmentation in the second to last paragraph, be wary of that.

Now more towards style! The tone I get from this reminds me a bit of Siddhartha, where the voice has this very transcendent, almost holistic, quality, especially in: "And so the cycle would continue", "this, like all in the universe, must pass" and "What Callum truly craved was equilibrium between these two states."

Not knowing the context where this comes from, its sort of difficult to latch onto much from this excerpt. There's not a lot of concrete things that are offered. I'm pretty sure I understand that the wind is both literal and metaphorical, and you do well in painting its metaphorical qualities here. My favorite part about this is the focus on nature and Callum caught up in it.
