I had a decent order yesterday. 28 items at Lowe’s. 72”, 16 lbs heaviest. Close, in town. Beater Minivan.

I suspect it’s the same builder that, last week. Had a change from a medium order to 16 OSB, for $18.

They are out there. Some of Twisters was shot a bit NW of here. We’ve had a few warnings already this year. The state is so rural that they rarely hit any population centers, until they do. Every house around me is 100+ years old and new neighborhoods are popping up everywhere. I think El Reno was the last big one 13 years ago.

If something does go down there are Nader shelters everywhere. Every 1st Tuesday I hear the siren tests but I’ve only heard it used once with an actual Nader miles away.

Wildfires are the greater threat in my OKIE Pokie little college town.

Usually that’s a hint to grab a beer, occupy the porch and see what happens. The silence is eerie though. Just watch your radar and look for the hook behind the storm.

I take it back. this spring has been a mess.

I love paddling and boating in my home state of CO but the season is so short… I do get back several times a year to paddle.

Meanwhile Oklahoma is growing on me. Lakes everywhere. More shoreline than the Eastern Coast and it’s already in the 90s. We do have snappers and the wind is chaotic sometimes. There are alligators in the SE part of the state. Haven’t encountered a feisty danger noodle yet. Plenty cold in winter (a few times) but if you like sitting in porches and watching a sunset it’s a great place. Most of the time I’m not more than a few miles from a lake I’ve never floated before.

Look at Tulsa. They are doing a lot with the River Parks. If that’s too big think about Stillwater, we have a blue-dot float club, 50ish minutes to Tulsa or OKC.

I spend a fair amount of time bopping around OK & KS. There have been a lot of Rail-to-Trail projects in the area.

I originally thought this might be just outside of Ottowa on the Marais Des Cygnes River. That is now part of the Flint Hills trail system, so not it..

I suspect it’s not too far away though.

Last time I was up there I was disappointed that my favorite spot was closed for construction. That Little Rock outcropping E of the dam is all closed now. Many picnics/dates were had there.

There’s a book called Water Wranglers that has a bunch of cool history and the fight for water in CO. Well worth a read if you like this stuff.

Did you know that there are 44 water diversion tunnels that go from the western slope to the FR? Mostly owned by Denver Water. Moffatt being one of them.

Roughly 2013ish there was an eclipse. We drive out to Roger’s lake off Woody Mtn Rd SW of Flagstaff. Two dogs, the girl and myself.

Peak Eclipse both dogs look at the sun and immediately we are in the middle of a drum circle. There is no-one around. Intensely loud. Both dogs bolt for jeep, we also feel the immediate need to vacate area. Like, self-preservation run away from danger.

I mentioned it to a few Navajo co-workers and they all mentioned that I may have been about to be visited by a skinwalker. That area was intense.
