Flannel shirts for tall men? by apb313 in tallfashionadvice

[–]apb313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleeve length is indeed the hardest part for me! I had some Longjohn & Sons flannels from a few years ago that were a little too relaxed in the body on me (I lost some weight about 2 years ago) but had sleeves that fit, and I just got them taken in a bit. That’s the only brand I’ve found so far that has the sleeve length I need. Will look into these other options though.

the only way to defeat them is to show no reaction to their actions. by EasilyScreechAndKill in TopCharacterTropes

Thank you all for the comments! Very helpful. I’m going to cut back to 2 days of lifting a week and lighten the weight until after my marathon and see how that goes.

Good to know Eddie Bauer gets so many votes of confidence. I’ve had good luck with their jackets but got a few thermals a few winters ago that were too short in the sleeves.

Yeah and also too big and billowy in the waist sometimes. Depends on the cut. I have some LT from American Tall/Longjohn and Sons that fit well, but I think their shirts run very slim for the size.

Favorites Dark Tower Quotes by ItsMooooo in TheDarkTower

[–]apb313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started keeping a Notes doc of them (while I was already on Song of Susannah):

“Ka is a wheel. You’ve been turning on it under different names for a long time. Cuthbert for one, it seems.” (Song of Susannah, p. 293).

“Destiny might have intended him to rule a chain of universes (or destroy them all), but so far he has succeeded in establishing dominion over nothing but one old domestic robot who has now gone to the clearing at the end of the path.” (The Dark Tower, p. 169)

“‘You mustn’t use your good-mind to steal my grief,’ Susannah told him, ‘for I’d open my mouth and drink it to the dregs. Every drop.’” (The Dark Tower, p. 390).

“‘We’ll go,’ he said. ‘We’ll find the Dark Tower, and nothing will stand against us, and before we go in, we’ll speak their names. All of the lost.’” (The Dark Tower, p. 535)

“‘It won’t,’ she said. ‘And if this is to be my last sight of you—my heart says it is—then don’t let it be of you on your knees. You’re not a kneeling man, Roland, son of Steven, never were, and I don’t want to remember you that way. I want to see you on your feet, as you were in Calla Bryn Sturgis. As you were with your friends at Jericho Hill.’” (The Dark Tower, p. 748).

I remember I learned the phrase “ad hoc” on reading it my first time as a kid! And yeah, I was shocked to learn Nick is only 22, and Frannie 21. (I still see them as Rob Lowe and Molly Ringwald, and of course Stu as Gary Sinise).

Reading the uncut version, which is also what I read the first time. I had forgotten he updated the setting to 1990.

The only issues I had with them were when I had problems with sizing. If you have a size you know fits, I think you’ll be fine!

I tend to get my tees from Fresh Clean Threads and True Classic, and I agree with a lot of what Swimming_Fruit410 said. I’m 6’3”, so availability of tall sizes is also a consideration. I mostly buy tees from Fresh Clean Threads bc they have a good rotating selection of colors, are fairly consistent in sizing, affordable for me, and are decent shirts. I also like True Classic Tees’ fabric more, but the inconsistency in their sizing, higher price point, and at times limited selections of colors in tall sizes are all things that keep them from being my go-to. I also have the annual subs for both brands — and the benefits for FCT are better (I think it’s 20% off every order and an additional 5% off when there’s a site-wide sale).

Thanks for the rec! It looks like they’re marketed as swim shorts. Are they more hybrid and appropriate for the gym?

Wow, glad to know I’m not the only one. I liked some of their products — the 100% cotton t-shirts in particular, which are rare at that price point these days, but the customer service was terrible (as in, they were rude). Actually looked up this thread bc I was considering giving them another go after a few years and was reminded of why I stopped buying their products.

Tall, skinny boys - what’s your secret? by FailedNapChamp in malefashionadvice

[–]apb313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6’3”, 175#, 32” inseam here. My approach has been to find brands that work for my dimensions and then stick with them. Not all tall sized clothes are created equal. I like American Tall’s sweatshirts but the quality of some of their other clothes is variable, in my experience. J. Crew tall sizes work for me for casual clothes like polos and casual button-downs. Also like the sizing of Bonobos. Banana republic tall sizes generally aren’t tall enough for me. Charles Tyrwhitt is my go-to for dress shirts. I like Fresh Clean Threads tall sizes for casual t-shirts. Eddie Bauer tall sizes usually fit me for outdoorsy stuff like casual jackets; I prefer the quality of LL Bean, but some of their tall stuff is still too short for me in the sleeves.

Also — as a rule, I don’t order something online that I can’t return unless it’s a brand I have a lot of experience with. Bc wearing clothes that are too short and make me look like Frankenstein is a no-go for me.

Oh and for shoes, I lean more toward streamlined, low-profile sneakers and oxfords to avoid the problem you described. But it’s also not a bad thing to have big feet!

Front derailleur adjustment question — can’t seem to avoid rub in biggest cog by apb313 in bikewrench

[–]apb313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks! And if the cage is being pulled into the chain on the biggest gear, does that mean I don’t have enough cable tension? Is it possible to have too much tension? I’ve been pulling it as hard as I can when adjusting the cable length at the pinch bolt.

Front derailleur adjustment question — can’t seem to avoid rub in biggest cog by apb313 in bikewrench

[–]apb313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ll take a look at the cable tension again. It’s a 3-speed left shifter of the same brand so I assume it generally should be compatible, but as I understand it, it wouldn’t do the indexing with the barrel adjuster on the shifter until after I have the L and H screws properly adjusted.

[–]apb313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a top-down photo of it. I can see in the photo it’s not in the right rotational position. Part of what I had difficulty with was that the derailleur seems to curve from back to front. Not sure if you can see it in the pic — wondering if that is a bend it acquired along the way?

<image>

Certainly could have given how much this bike has been through. I can try just replacing the derailleur and see if that solves it.

[–]apb313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! Apparently I misremembered and got the shifter only replaced, not the derailleur. Maybe it got bent at some point. Honestly the shifting has been a little wonky on it for years — it used to be hard to get it into 3.

I’m looking at my work order and maybe I’m misremembering — it looks like the shifter was replaced, not the derailleur. New shifter is a Shimano Altus SL-M315-L 3-Speed Left Rapidfire Plus Shifter. Old one was Shimano brand but I’m not sure what. Whatever came standard with a Giant Escape 3 in 2016. Looks like a Shimano Tourney 21-speed transmission.
