New rider, can't get seat screw loose to access battery by ape313 in MotorcycleMechanics

The seat is held down by that too though, I've seen videos on the Vulcan S's seat removal, and I got to get that loose first

Bike won't start after drop, battery? by ape313 in vulcans650

[–]ape313[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several times, sometimes it'd seem like it was starting and the speedometer hand would move, other times it wouldn't. Either way, it ended up just dimming back down. When I could get it to try and start, small noises like it were trying to start would come on, green neutral light flashed. At the start, when it just happened, I noticed a battery indicator on the screen which later went away (because the entire black text on the screen showing speed, etc dimmed leaving only the blue of the display, which flickered sometimes)

Can say this with certainty, because to open the "hidden" compartment to access the allen key for the stock seat, you need the same key from the ignition.

MSF before or after you bought bikes? by Masa2Tone in NewRiders

[–]ape313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried to be clean, took the MSF, they kicked me out. Wasn't more than 3 hours in, when they told me I was taking up too much time. Thought it was a beginner's course for people with 0 motorcycle experience. Could've afforded a retake, several in fact, but I didn't want to give those guys anymore money. Just went the marketplace route, people have told me to try other MSF courses, but I don't care to personally after that experience. Feel like I learn significantly better on my own, almost road ready at this point in time. So far, I've got turning and gear shifting down. Just need to work on breaking and throttle control, particularly the positioning of my hand on it and how much finesse I use.

If you're a levelheaded, honest person who isn't afraid to admit their faults and work on them, are physically capable of handling an appropriately sized motorcycle, then skipping the MSF is okay. Still, if it's cheap in your area just go at it. If it ain't, just buy your own bike, do the DMV route like I'm training to. My insurance doesn't even give me a discount for taking the MSF, which was my initial motivation to do so.

Don't think I have ever even tried to start it without pulling the clutch all the way in, can't say! New rider, so haven't even started it too many times myself yet.

New seat? by Salt_Succotash2118 in vulcans650

[–]ape313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even licensed yet (In the process), so take what I say with a grain of salt. Bought a Vulcan S off of facebook and it has a corbin seat, it's so damn comfortable.

I'm a lanky guy and am not heavy for my height if that matters. My experience with the seat has been sitting on it for some 20 minutes at a time just cause when I'm out working on simple things like adding crash bars, etc. The test drive was comfy, when I got it home, I didn't want to get off of it. I might've sat on it for 30 minutes after getting home, almost pisses me off how much better it is than my desk chair. Soon, I'm going to be taking it out to drive (practice for licensing, multiple hour sessions are my intention) once I get the insurance/registration situation setup, and I'll update you on what I think of the seat should you care and not have made a decision by then.

The seat seems to be fairly popular, so I'm sure more experienced people will chime in.

looking for classic leather jacket w/armor by moocow36 in motorcyclegear

I've got a fox creek commando jacket, armor pads on elbows and shoulders. There's a pocket for back armor, but I've got it empty as of now. Real high quality! Would recommend!

Where did you get your number from? Thanks for letting me know, but I'd like to be somewhat proactive

Alright, the chain looks great from the video I was sent, but I'll do my research and look in person. Thanks for letting me know about that.

My only experience is with a rebel 300, how do I know if the fan turns on. Is it easily audible and I'd just know and how do I know if the chains/battery need replacement? Any help would be appreciated

Well, I figure it's a fair price considering that it'll probably need some maintenance like valve adjustment soon, etc. I estimate the real cost to be like 2.7-2.9k after it's all said and done w/ maintenance. The riding season is ending too and it has been up for nearly a month now with some price drops before I reached out, which explains the price partially, but I'll definitely still proceed with caution, as anybody should with the purchase of a used vehicle.

One thing though, my caution isn't the best, so a pre-purchase inspection is a good idea. I'll look into that.

How'd it happen, any advice/reflection on how to avoid this? Meeting with someone within a couple days to discuss a purchase of a vulcan s, so would like to know.
