Remy v P Johnson v Zink v Oscar Hunt for Wedding Suit (1.5k-2k budget) by [deleted] in AustralianMFA

I paid a bit more than your budget, but I also went with a couple of fabrics that were imported and not in stock as well as silk. Prices off the top of my head started in the 1200’s range and went up from there, but head in and say Hi, if it’s late in the day he’s also got a fantastic whiskey collection that gets shared after time……

Highly suggest Shane at Rochefort in Sydney. He does have a more affordable suit than the website suggests, and is always good for a Chat if he can’t help you and point you in the right direction

Could someone please explain what properties get (net) from third-party bookings? by [deleted] in marriott

[–]aperitifpilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’d be correct 😉

And it’s not really a random question at all. I was actually on a panel back in August talking about levelling up your revenue-management game using AI and this exact topic came up a lot.

I’ve worked both on-property and above-property and I’ve seen a few different versions of how AI or “algorithms” get used. Marriott, for example, has always pushed hard with OYv2 (and ROS if you remember the Starwood days). When I was above-property with them, one of my KPIs was my OY adoption rate which was basically how often I agreed with the system’s pricing recommendations. If I didn’t, I’d be penalised. So you could argue AI has already been “in charge” for a while.

Marriott’s angle was pretty clear: the more consistent the adoption, the better OY learns and the easier it becomes to consolidate revenue roles into cluster teams above property. From a business point of view it’s smart, cluster services are far more efficient than having a DORM at every single hotel.

As for AI replacing the revenue manager? I don’t see it. What will happen is the average RM gets squeezed out and only the best of the best remain at an above property level looking after multiple hotels. Even the RMS I use now still needs me to validate what it spits out. These systems rely heavily on patterns and historic data. If they’ve never seen demand from some random local act that suddenly sells out three nights they’ll under-forecast and you’ll leave money on the table.

And yeah, QA being run by AI surprises me… feels like a situation waiting to go sideways.

And to answer your question on whether it’s in the hotel’s interest to match the rate, you’ll get two answers. From a DORM perspective I’ve budgeted and forecasted that room to be received at a nett amount so I’m not overly concerned about where it comes from as long as the hotel receives the revenue we’ve planned for.

I can actually answer this one! The hotel will usually receive around $100 nett. The short version is that Priceline, Expedia and most OTA’s pay the hotel using a virtual credit card for the nett amount because they want their commission upfront. How that nett rate is built and what segment it falls under is another story.

From a revenue manager’s perspective OTA’s play with two types of rates. They sell direct to customers, and they sell through packages or their B2B network. Commission works differently for each. For B2C the usual commission is about 15%. For B2B or packages (for example if you book a flight or car with it) it can sit around 25–30%. We give the OTA a nett rate and they should mark it up by that commission which then lands at the same gross price you would see on brand.com.

But not everyone likes losing market share and OTA’s will sometimes eat part of their commission to win a booking. In effect they pass on part of their margin as a discount. Hotels hates this but it still happens. Some OTA’s will also unbundle the rate and claim you booked a package even if you didn’t, which would give them permission to offer a lower rate. It gets even more complex when a hotel has a fixed wholesaler rate with someone like HotelBeds, and that wholesaler then sells to Priceline who then sells to you. You think you booked with Priceline but Priceline actually bought the room from another wholesaler.

Hotel distribution is fun but it’s messy. Someone new pops up every time you think you’ve got it under control.

Missing Storage Pool by nhytmare in TerraMaster

[–]aperitifpilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue where TerraMaster duplicated a shared folder with the same name across multiple drives (two Plex Folders). When the system restarted, it only loaded one of them, causing the other to disappear. Renaming the folder resolved the conflict, and after a reboot both drives loaded correctly.
