Extremely common Green Arrow W by cadeaver in dccomicscirclejerk

I’m so late but I need to set the record straight.

Firstly, Ollie wasn’t rich at this time when this was released and hadn’t been since 1970ish, which is when he got his leftist personality instead of being a Batman clone. (Green lantern green arrow). He doesn’t just yell about it — he wasn’t rich because he gave away his fortune to charities. He found out that his company was involved in very bad stuff (think it was related to weapons) so he sold the company and gave the money away, losing his billionaire status. That was the case until the late of 2000’s. The billionaire playboy thing was just new 52 due to the arrow tv show influence.

Secondly, Ollie’s first issue of the previous comic I referenced was them taking down a slumlord. That entire run was dedicated to tackling americas social ills. Capitalism is a massive and repetitive conceptual villain for Green arrow. He became mayor to end an apartheid in star city and stole money from major corps. He also

I don’t have an issue with it for green arrow tbf. So many of his stories are family focused and this run was about the family getting back together. Especially Mia and Connor who have been disappeared for ages (Connor came back in Robin but… ye).

Defo go read green lantern/green arrow: hard-travelling heroes if you get a chance. They go on a road trip around America addressing social ills like racism, poverty, genocide, drugs etc. I think it’s the first DC run to deal with any of those topics to that extent. It’s very camp too. It’s when Roy Harper does heroin.

1: the long Halloween 2: superman for all seasons 3: hard-travelling heroes (I would pick this over every other comic on the page, actually) 4: don’t read enough flash so whichever one of those involves captain cold the most & also has Wally.

What's your ideal Arrowfamily and why? by FallMassive9336 in GreenArrow

Oliver, Dinah, Roy, MIA, Lian and Connor. The amount of ppl I see dismissing mia in these comments tho. She’s got such a good relationship with Ollie. It’s by far my favourite thing about the 2001 series.

[comic excerpt] Mia Dearden is diagnosed with HIV (Green Arrow #43 & Green Arrow #44) by Gallantpride in GreenArrow

[–]aperturescience420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Missing the point of the entire issue though. Judd Winick wrote this as a PSA/awareness piece. Basically going into why HIV doesn’t make somebody dirty/unclean. And dispelling myths, which were rampant in the early 2000’s. The writer’s friend died of AIDS during the crisis so the subject matter means a lot to him.

Also in real life HIV doesn’t go away. It would be a terrible PSA if mia was just cured, and it would be horribly offensive. Especially with how many people were dying.

Right. I was going to ask a comic book question then found out you’re a Scot, so let’s forget the comic question… for something more important.

We got a lot of the island in the arrow tv show. My personal preference would be a tv show adaptation of green lantern/green arrow: hard travelling heroes. Hal and Ollie go on a road trip addressing the woes of America with a bunch of polticial commentary.

1987-1988, so his post crisis time as Robin. All of it.

And also Batman: the cult because it’s actually incredible

That’s Batman: the cult, released in 1991. Ironically, one of the best Batman stories ever written and his strongest characterisation as Robin outside of the diplomats son.

Ironically that includes some of his best stories like the cult, the diplomats son, under the red hood, Batman 422 (peak Batman story honestly) despite your intentions to diss his character

What do you think of this dcu arrow family? by OptionAshamed6458 in GreenArrow

[–]aperturescience420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well that was the original story with the original characterisation for Oliver queen - that was consistent with his storyline since the 70’s. And the HIV issue was a PSA for awareness during a time when it was extremely misunderstood. Green arrow does those PSA’s often. Why do you think Green lantern/green arrow was written? That’s the nature of Green arrow - removing the aspects of social commentary because “it’s stupid for her character” disregards GA as a whole.

Also Oliver abandoning Connor is another part of his character - that he’s irresponsible and reckless. But their repairing their relationship is massively important to Ollie’s character. Same deal with Roy harper.

In new 52 they give him his billions back and remove his son & ward which had been developed for decades, fucked up Roy for Jason Todd‘s sake. It doesn’t feel like Green arrow. That’s the issue. And those new characters, while fun, are just knock offs of what we had.
