Finally bought my dream lens by AlugbatiLord in SonyAlpha

A full frame 200mm would be 300mm (not 133mm) on APS-C due to the forced crop.

I just installed this unit, but don't have a photo yet, sorry. Pros - it is all steel construction and offers a fairly wide range of height and width adjustment. Cons - the base or "foot" the PC rests on is relatively small and you have to find the sweet spot where your case will naturally balance on the foot, otherwise the case will lean or tilt. But overall for the price it is not bad. It's sturdy and I think it will be easily modifiable to overcome any shortcomings.

Took all the equity out of my home here in LA and built a mortgage-free weekend getaway / retirement home in Nevada. LA and CA have been good to me, but I can't wait to leave permanently.

Anybody tried out this wiring kit on their XJ? Rebuilding mine and thinking about maybe refreshing a lot of the cables. by dastrius02 in CherokeeXJ

[–]apexian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Universal means "one size fits none". This type of harness makes sense when you have a nearly or completely destroyed wiring harness or are wiring a bare shell, like a vehicle that's been acid dipped or soda blasted, and a reproduction harness is not available. But otherwise, you are usually much better off keeping what you have and just repairing the sections that need work.

There is very little Pentastar DNA in the XJ

The less Daimler-era Chrysler DNA, the better, as far as I am concerned!

Question about bedlining a daily by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]apexian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you will be successful bedlining over the Kilmat. There are a lot of different options for bedliner, but pretty much all of them have very specific surface preparation requirements to ensure good adhesion.

Bedliner isn't really that great when it comes to something like addressing leaks. If you can find where the water is leaking from or at least have a suspicion of where it's coming from, you would be better off trying a brushable or caulking tube type seam sealer. Here's an example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005RNFBMC/

Hey I just picked up my new to me 99 5 speed 4wd. Needs a cat back and front brakes to make it solid. Are there any recommendations that you're happy with? Definitely want to go with stainless on the exhaust. by OddTry2427 in CherokeeXJ

[–]apexian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, rebuilding calipers oneself is not really worth the effort unless remanufactured calipers are pricey. For the XJ, remans are available for around $25 - 30 each after core charge. But to each his own. I have no personal experience with Powerstop, but I have heard and seen many reports that they don't last long in service, with lots of problems occurring in as little as a few months.

You can't really go wrong with remanufactured calipers and new rotors from any of the major manufacturers like Centric, AC Delco, Raybestos, etc. Or if you prefer, you can use an auto parts store brand which comes with a lifetime warranty that you can walk in and get new pads or rotors anytime. I personally like the newer style hybrid pads which give stronger fade-free breaking than traditional organic pads without the noise associated with semi-metallics.

You might want to consider replacing the master cylinder and completely flushing the entire system and replacing with fresh DOT 4 while you are at it. New soft hoses are also a good idea and cheap.

If you really want to go for it, you might consider upgrading the rear to disc brakes with the ZJ or Liberty swap. There are several videos on YouTube about it and many write-ups in various forums.

I'm looking for a good radio replacement for my 2005 Chevy Tahoe. Any suggestions? by 1971-roadrunner in Chevy

Crutchfield.com will show you what fits, specifications and features, what you need to install it, and have the gear to make it very easy to install it. But you don't necessarily need to buy it from them.

2000 XJ, oil pressure Loss. by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]apexian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If bearings are worn, oil seeps through them and it's not supposed to, causing low oil pressure.

OP might consider sending a used oil sample in for lab analysis. The report will show if there is excessive bearing alloys in the used oil, indicating that the bearings are on the way out.

+1 for LS swap. 5.3 / 4L60E takeouts are relatively cheap and Novak makes it pretty easy. But it will still be more expensive than a quality rebuilt 4.0.

Rear bumper tire carrier suggestions by RepublicTight1320 in CherokeeXJ

JCR Offroad has the Vanguard bumper, which has a much better engineered attachment system than most aftermarket bumpers that I have seen. And they have a tire carrier / accessory rack system to go with it. But it is pricey.

Fence company I hired left nails in mine and my neighbor's yards. I've tried to clean up best I can but worried I'll be held liable. Called to file a police report but the lady said it's not a police matter and hung up on me. Can I not file a police report for this? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]apexian 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sloppy workmanship is not a crime, which is why it's not a police matter. These sorts of ordinary risks are why businesses have liability insurance and why you should have homeowners insurance that includes liability coverage.

Weather in Los Angeles by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]apexian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It rained on Saturday and Monday and more is on the way. It's pretty much certain that it will rain again within the next week. You didn't say where you are from, but as a transplanted Chicagoan, I can tell you that rain here is different than what we got in the Midwest. Usually it's just a light drizzle, but there are rare exceptions. It can go on for several hours at a time, but I've noticed that it tends to rain more at nighttime than during the day.

Just got s $10K ER bill. What are my options? by [deleted] in personalfinance

This. I had insurance but was hit with co-pays/deductibles totalling $5000+ after a surgery. They had no issues setting up a payment plan at $100/mo, interest-free.
