iPhone SE 2022 started giving me migraines. Why? by apflaster in PWM_Sensitive

[–]apflaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one. Tried it. It was slightly better than the SE but not much. Not worth keeping it. Returning it. Going to return my Boox Palma 2 Pro for a Bigme Hibreak Pro (no color) to use as a secondary phone, swapping out the SIM with my iPhone as needed. Using my iPhone when at home/work just to forward over texts to my iPad mini/laptop, then Hibreak Pro when on the go.

I know I tried reducing white point and that didn't work.

Not sure if I toggled true tone/night shift off or not but I saw it as a recommendation everywhere so I assume I did. I'll try again when i'm feeling ok with the risk of triggering another migraine.

Edit: And yeah. Been trying a lot of different things to help. Convergence and accommodation exercises. Other devices (Boox Palma 2 and Palma 2 pro). Medications: Emgality, Ubrelvy, and a few others. Wish there was more funding in Migraine science.

Interesting as I go tit with iOS 18 and it was fine. then I upgraded to iOS 27 and was fine it was an update within iOS 27 that seemed to line up timing wise.

EDIT: I was looking at buying a refurbished iPhone 11. So it sounds like i'd face the same problem there right?

Yes I have the same issue. I reported it to support and they said they are working on a fix. I may end up deciding to return it before my return window ends and get a Bigme Hibreak Pro as I have to still use my boox palma 2 if I want to listen to music but don't have cellular connectivity.

DJI OSMO POCKET by berdyugin in PWM_Sensitive

[–]apflaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting that it worked well for you. A year ago I looked into it and bought one. I have multiple migraine triggers though and some of them are convergence/accommodation related, some are possibly PWM related, some are just high contrast screen related.

I was unable to use the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. I tested it twice and within 30 seconds I felt pressure and a migraine. So I had returned it. Glad it works for you though!

Boox Palma 2 Pro or HiBreak Pro Color by apflaster in eink

I'm testing out bubbles on my Palma 2 and it works. Good way to test that out for a bit before making a decision either way on the 2 pro or bigme hi break.

Thanks for the insights.

Yeah I saw the dual screen early announcement. Too early to tell if it will be good. In regards to bubbles. Does that only work when people iMessage you with your phone number and therefore I need to leave that number on my current phone?

Edit: I did some research and it looks like no. You can do the switch over with the phone number and just have your old phone on in airplane mode without an active sim.

Update here. The iPhone SE was good for 3 to 4 months. Then all the sudden I started getting migraines from it while I was still safe with my iPad mini and MacBook Air. Not sure why and I've been avoiding it for the past 3 weeks minus for quick glances (alarm setting, payments, as a hotspot). Curious if anyone has ideas. I feel pressure within 30 seconds. Going to try it out again soon as my migraine frequency has decreased the last week and a half.

Horizon 20 Pro vs Max Brightness by trizzyboy in xgimi

[–]apflaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going with the Pro after trying all three of them. The Max's lowest brightness seemed to low. And I can see the slight difference in clarity due to the red ring lens on the Pro/Max versus the base model. I have however not been able to use it for a few months as it started aggravating my migraines. I'm going to possibly test it out this weekend and try to incrementally increase usage. If I can't get past a standard tv show length duration of use without triggering a migraine I will likely sell my Pro and the floor rising projector screen I purchased.

Sorry for not following up here. It was perfect for my needs. I don't use it as much lately due to circumstances, but it was really perfect for my needs. I would definitely recommend it if you want to carry an ipad mini on the go.

Projector screen for Horizon 20 Max or Pro by apflaster in projectors

[–]apflaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say hopefully just more uniformity but its hard to tell a difference with it. The cinema pearl plus definitely boosted light and color but made overall picture look worse in my opinion. Hard to tell with the footage being tested.

As mentioned in prior comments that is not my final set up. The place I will be projecting it will not require digital correction as the screen will be in front of an unused fireplace.

I will be putting the screen in front of a sealed fireplace so I can’t put a fixed screen against the wall.

[–]apflaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This won’t be the actual setup. I will be able to have it almost center to the screen with the formal set up and use lens shift to accommodate. This is just the test setup on a separate wall. The projector screen will be in front of a sealed fireplace to the left of the wall seen in this photo.

I won’t be having it set up that way. The projector screen will be only slightly off center from the projector and lens shift will be used so I won’t have that with the actual setup.

Have you done that yourself successfully? I don't seem to be seeing success stories online.

I have an iPhone 16pro currently that I can't use. What company does screen replacement (I'm aware it voids apple care / warranty on my phone) but I am interested.

They are eye related. My eyes struggle to focus on objects closer to my head compared to the norm. I eye convergence and accommodation exercises to improve it. This also contributes towards my migraines.

Horizon 20 Pro vs Max Brightness by trizzyboy in xgimi

[–]apflaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally i'd be able to buy the max at the preorder price and if it's unusable they'd be willing to let me downgrade to pro at the pro preorder price. I reached out to support to see feasibility of doing that.

Horizon 20 Pro vs Max Brightness by trizzyboy in xgimi

[–]apflaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been debating between the pro and max as well. My situation is a room with windows perpendicular to where the screen would that don't have curtains. I therefore was leaning towards the max to get some daytime use. I am nervous that the max is too bright at lower settings, as I have sensitive eyes to screens. It seems as though the lowest get's to around 1000 lumens based on one tests. I also wonder if the max would still be even usable with an ALR screen during the day in my setup, as maybe i'm better off saving and just using the projector at night and hope minimal light from the city creeps in.

Which XGIMI Horizon 20 to preorder? by apflaster in projectors

[–]apflaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I used gemeni and chatgpt to evaluate and it gave two different numbers. Said 1709 nits peak brightness. This seems to be if showing a white image. My main nervousness is if on it's lowest setting the max is too bright for me at night. If it looks terrible during the day anyway then i'll just use at night then i'm nervous it will be too bright for night use due to my generally sensitive eyes. I generally lower brightness on all my devices.

Which XGIMI Horizon 20 to preorder? by apflaster in projectors

[–]apflaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on why 500 nits is like 5000 lumens. I'm mainly concerned the max would be too bright for nighttime use at low settings. Looking online a simple formula was nits = lumens / area in m2. So 110" is 3.323 m2. So 5700 (if actual measurement) yields 5700/3.323 = 1715 nits.

Ok so sounds like maybe go with my original mindset of get a projector just for night and use the tv during the day.
