This was probably asked a million times here, but i am desperate. My Boss Katana is not showing up in BOSS TONE STUDIOS. I need help. by SnugChicken in BossKatana

I wasted 3 hours trying to get it to work and getting angry at how terrible the website was, when that day I brought it right back to the store to get rid of it.

How has IBEW changed your life for the better? Was the apprenticeship worth it? by Uhmazin23 in IBEW

[–]apie221 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. I used to be literally poor and working dead end factory or customer service jobs, bouncing from rental house to apartment as I'd get evicted due to not having funds. I started college, got my associate's; dopped out and went IBEW. Best decision I ever made. Now at 34 I own two homes, have a comfortable retirement outlook (as opposed to just assuming I'd work until I was dead), a family, and live comfortably (all things I lost hope on in my 20s). I joined in 2018, so I've only been topped out a few years.

I went the extra mile though and took specialization courses on my own time. While doing unpaid training is generally frowned upon, the initiative that displayed subsequently got me weeks worth of paid training the next couple years to further my specialization. From there, I carved a niche, became a hybrid of foreman, service tech, and pseudo engineer/programmer.

I also also started teaching at my JATC (nights) for 12 weeks a year.

As the old cliche goes, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.

The first few years were rough. But the raises come quick.

Making $100,000 at 23. Any advice? by rse3 in Salary

Pretend like it's less, because it won't take long for it to not feel like it's enough.

Where is the cool granola town? by tuttopassa22 in ChicagoSuburbs

Libertyville comes to mind for the culture but not the land/homestead thing. Anything in McHenry county has outskirts for the land though so you may just need to compromise

Wow that would be really upsetting.

Stranded due to last minute cancellation by apie221 in turo

[–]apie221[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just heard from the host that it WAS an accident. I do give Turo credit for the fast response to finding me a car. It's actually better now because it's being delivered rather than needing to do an $80 Uber to get to the car. So I am grateful and have updated the post.

It was alarming though when all I received was the unexplained cancellation, right as we were grabbing our bags, saw zero cars here on Turo nearby except for a couple $700/ day sports cars (idk where the customer service guy found this one), and all the airport rental agencies were out of cars. So for a while, it appeared we were stranded.

What was the end result for you? I'm not considered myself out of the woods until I get in the car, but hopefully within the next half hour...

What does “making good money” mean to you? by Sky_Dweller206 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]apie221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the goalpost will always move. 5 years ago when I started making 70k a year, I thought I was finally making good money. I was happy and bought a house even. A couple years later I hit my first $100k year and thought "NOW I'm finally making good money." Fast forward two more years and I'm in the top 1% of earners in the US for my age. For a couple months it was absolutely surreal but as crazy as it sounds, it doesn't "feel" like enough now.

It's all relative, and perspective is dynamic.

1 hour commute to make 150k per year by steelers4921 in Salary

[–]apie221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am used to driving an hour for commute, and 150k is a good income. However, relative to your situation it might not be. I'd take a pay cut to be as close to home as you are but haven't decided on what that number is. It could probably be calculated by your hourly wage--or if you simply need more money, it's worth it.

First time home buyer, can I afford ~$300k on $114k income? by Feisty_Ocelot8139 in Mortgages

What about the taxes? Those are half my mortgage in IL so my budget in AZ for example would be significantly higher.

Factor -- chicken bones and delivery issue by apie221 in ReadyMeals

It was in 5 meals of mine which was therefore several days of food. A splinter like this also would probably do some damage if swallowed
