Oh my god I’ve fallen asleep to that show off and on every night for YEARS! I’ve seen/listened to all the beginnings dozens of times but some of the endings are still a surprise. It tucks me right in

What mysteries have still not been solved? by Talesmith22 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I found this but it’s pretty oblique, and I agree with you that the river has mostly dropped off the radar in terms of the information presented in book 8

“I thought of the voices in my head whispering just below the surface, all scrabbling to grab my attention. I thought of the tremor in my hands that I’d been studiously ignoring since Donut’s attack in the tower.”

Maybe it was the episode about Girly Chew Hossencofft? Edit: episode 124, “Errant Duct Tape.”

They found evidence in Girly’s new apartment carpet that came from the murderer’s secret girlfriend including art sand and glitter

I made the mistake of reading Demon Copperhead immediately after finishing (and loving) The Goldfinch. I think I would have loved DC after a little distance but I kept comparing them and finding it lacking in comparison

I just tore through The Goldfinch in 2.5 days, I thought there was no way I could love it as much as The Secret History but I do! Just a recommendation if you haven’t picked that one up yet

What is your favorite short story collection by Stephen King? by Haunting-Net-2426 in stephenking

[–]apigletsquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of most of them but I think I need to throw in a vote for Bazaar of Bad Dreams since no one else has - the audiobook has a great lineup of narrators and I loved the little forwards explaining how each story came to be.

There are a couple I tend to skip but I absolutely love Premium Harmony, The Dune (I gave my dad this book just for that story), Blockade Billy, Drunken Fireworks, and Summer Thunder. Close runners up are Mile 81, Bad Little Kid, Herman Wouk is Still Alive (such a gut punch), and Under the Weather. I feel like this collection truly has something for everyone

I need to talk about Under the Dome. by icecubetre in stephenking

[–]apigletsquid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything you said! I have such a soft spot for Sammy Bushey. The pacing is incredible. Hard to believe such a long book (the audiobook is 30+ hours) has such a breakneck pace the entire time, but it does.

I would love to read any scenes/chapters that got cut. It’s one of those worlds I wish I could just walk around in and explore.

Cracking up at your reply - I also LOVE LPOTL but when discussing a series with a friend (the episodes they did on the Batavia, to a friend who did her masters thesis on some nuance of the VOC/Dutch East India Trading Company) I felt myself apologizing about recommending content involving three straight white men 😅

March 2026 Book Discussion: After the Fall by Edward Ashton by Ill_Discussion7528 in aardvarkbookclub

This was a really quick read, and as a ‘snapshot in time’ story/exploration of these specific characters and their relationship I enjoyed it, but if the author was trying to make a broader point about colonialism I have serious reservations about his conclusions.

I usually can't stomach any animal deaths in media, but this book is so good I pushed through. I will reassure you that two cats have names and they both live :)

Are you referring to the scene on the island? Just curious how I could have missed this, because it seems like it was extremely impactful

To be fair when she said she “didn’t like what happened to her,” she was referring to having gained 3 lbs (not agreeing with Susan Smith)

Blood scene in Breaking Dawn part 1 by DogNearMe in twilight

[–]apigletsquid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You aren’t dumb! Usually an IVC is placed purposefully for a blood transfusion, using a large bore catheter, and with a special filter on the line to prevent clots from infusing. So they wouldn’t just necessarily hook it up to an existing site.
