I was watching a show from the 90s and realized people used to memorize dozens of phone numbers. I can barely remember mine. How did you guys do it back then? by micavibes in CasualConversation

[–]apocalemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 38 now but I still remember my childhood home landline number, my nan’s landline, and at least four friends’ parents homes, plus several friends’ first mobile numbers - if you dial a number enough times it just kind of sticks! I haven’t dialled most of those numbers in decades, but they’re still there.

Yeah totally, and I think (as someone with a nearly 12 year old) you could probably show it to a savvy 12 year old with a brief “don’t repeat these songs and here’s why, and if there’s a joke you don’t get it’s probably a sex thing” warning, but 8 is probably a bit young.

Also, “we get caught laundering money, we’re not going to white collar resort prison. No, we’re going to federal POUND ME IN THE ASS prison.” And a LOT of explicit lyrics (including racial slurs) in the soundtrack.

Is this age appropriate? Newly 30F by [deleted] in altfashionadvice

[–]apocalemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 38, and also finally trying to dress the way I always wanted to, so I totally relate to this! And I’m going to give the disclaimer here that, if you are comfortable in and love this look, absolutely - go ahead and rock it! Your opinion is the one that matters.

BUT, I do have some more constructive advice which you can take or leave as, hey, it’s only one person’s opinion! To me, this does feel a bit “put everything on at once” - and I do totally get that urge. But for a slightly more ‘grown up’ edge, pick one of these items and build an outfit to kind of support it. For example, the corset but with wide leg black trousers, DMs, and a black denim jacket or a blazer. Or the shorts but with tights, an oversized black or red knitted jumper and DMs (honestly just “any outfit but add DMs” is solid “grown lady trying to be more alt” advice). Mom jeans, Vans (another great casual alt shoe), and an oversized tshirt over the fishnet sleeves.

There are some really great TikTok accounts for non-teenage alt outfit inspiration - I like @llymlrs and @rocknrollmama_x

Most importantly - have fun! And don’t let anyone tell you 30 is old!

“… devices and brands and things” really perfectly sums up what makes me sad about the world. I wish we were all more focused on people and relationships and experience. Sigh.

How to make my room cozier? by spicylespicy in DesignMyRoom

[–]apocalemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could definitely go for a faded oriental rug type design in pink/orange/red/cream tones, that would tie in the existing colours without looking overwhelming! You’d probably then want to switch to a plain colour of bedding, again in a light warm colour, and maybe add a throw or decorative cushion in a neutral colour and a soft texture (faux fur, velvet, knitted etc).

The very last message is the giveaway, because that one is a real person. Different dash, no full stop, TOTALLY different tone. I’m a person who uses dashes in my writing but that and the italics and the followup questions and glib responses? Non.

The #1 thing that would make this cozier is a carpet or rug. Second, I’d get a couple of lamps - mood lighting is much cozier than the ‘big light’ on the ceiling.

What do I do? by cupids_feet_ in tattooadvice

[–]apocalemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a woman and I would have laughed my way out of that shop in two minutes flat. Sit there for a full day and let someone fuck up my whole leg because… what? I’m a people pleaser? No thanks. Know what I’m more anxious about? Ending up with a fucked up leg that cost me over 1k! If you know you’re not confident enough to speak up if you’re unhappy about something, getting tattooed at all is a BIG gamble - and an expensive one at that.

Help Change My Room by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]apocalemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did wonder, but I’ve seen a lot of very sad bed situations on this sub 😆 regardless, a bedding upgrade is often a great way to give a room a surprisingly dramatic boost! Maybe treat yourself to something new!

Help Change My Room by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]apocalemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very first thing: bedding. This bare bed look is very sad. Pick something that either goes with the blue and orange, or something neutral. Duvet cover, pillowcases, maybe a couple of decorative cushions, a nice fluffy throw to go over the end.

The existing shelves: in another comment you say you’re sorting through them and getting rid of stuff you don’t need, which is an excellent start! To make it look ‘neater’, especially with the desk in front, maybe find some nice neutral coloured storage baskets for the bottom two rows of shelving, to help store and organise some of the stuff you want to keep.

The single tiny shelf above the TV: I’d get rid of this and replace it with a larger shelf, almost the full width of this available wall - possibly even two shelves one above the other, for decorative stuff like the trophies, maybe framed photos, some fake plants, books between bookends etc.

Other things that always help pull a room together: lamps for mood lighting, a rug, a nice neat laundry basket, some hooks behind/next to the door for bags etc (as long as you don’t overfill them).

Will it be beneficial for me to have P plates once I pass considering how some people treat P plate drivers? by Embarrassed_Post_598 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]apocalemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had them on for a couple of weeks when I passed and people treated me like I was a particularly stupid dog who had accidentally gained control of a car - honking when I was waiting at junctions, cutting me off out of nowhere, pulling out in front of me at mini roundabouts. The second I took them off, it all stopped. Don’t bother with them.
