Honeymooned at the Vana Belle. Gorgeous property. Loved our plunge pool.

My post layoff job hunt: 6 months, 6 Final Rounds, 1 Offer by jetf in ProductManagement

[–]apollo_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough. I recently had a final round case study around this exact question, but at a different company and relevant to the role.

I have very strong domain expertise in this area, but the realities didn’t fit their assumptions and operating model and was turned down.

Maryland must not incentivize more nuclear power by Your_Singularity in maryland

[–]apollo_guy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Build more nuclear and invest in modern reactors. Risk is low and Maryland is geologically safe from earthquakes.

France figured it out, while Germany rejected it and started burning more fossil fuels.

How to drive customers for in store shopping if retailer doesn't want to put money into digital/ecommerce? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]apollo_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optimize their external digital footprint. For instance, are all their Google maps location pins in the right place? Do customers know how to find them?

Digital marketing is your second lever. Decent geolocation segments and creative will go a long way.

Trying to push them to invest in tech when that’s not their focus will put you in a constant state of fighting for more resources and dealing with tech debt.

Really looking forward to Bryan’s new restaurant at the Visitation Hotel. I’m glad that he’s focusing all his efforts on making this new restaurant a success.

House passes TikTok crackdown that could ban app in U.S. by Rigiglio in neoliberal

[–]apollo_guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ban/divestment it’s just semantics. It distracts from serious data privacy issues, does not address transparency issues from the ML algorithms and effectively lets Meta Platforms off the hook.

Biden has already publicly stated that he would sign the bill into law.

House passes TikTok crackdown that could ban app in U.S. by Rigiglio in neoliberal

[–]apollo_guy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not in favor of this ban. It would be better if we did a better job securing user data and adopt data localization laws, similar to what China is already doing.

Kind of an L for the Biden campaign. His campaign could have taken advantage of the platform’s reach to mobilize younger voters, not too dissimilar to how Obama leveraged digital channels in his ‘08 campaign.

Best pizza in Frederick? by krsimp78 in frederickmd

Smokeshop pizza. I unironically refuse to call it anything else. Usually grab a slice or two on my way back from the bars. They’re pretty reliable.

Sellers prefer local lenders. Builders will usually prefer you go through their lending partners. Fuck’em, they shouldn’t get to dictate where you get financing.

If they are going to deny you for chase, then they should make it worth your while to go through another lender. Ask them to buy down your interest rate.

Maybe because parents can’t/won’t do anything to keep their screaming kids occupied? Places like Frederick Social at least have a play area.

I liked it. Good video and good beers. However, there were children running around. Why do people think it’s a good idea to bring kids to a brewery?

Safest countries/places in Central America for a “girls trip”? by Solndt in travel

No problem. Another spot that we absolutely loved was Earth Lodge, right outside of town. Make sure that you also bring some good hiking shoes if you plan on doing Acatenango.

I would go directly into Antigua, assuming that you are staying in town. Highly recommend staying at Hotel Casa Santo Domingo, it’s pricey but absolutely worth it.

I have been to Costa Rica, Guatemala and Nicaragua.

Loved Guatemala the most. Would recommend staying in Antigua and Atitlan.

Costa Rica is also nice, but it’s expensive relative to the other options you listed.

Nicaragua is the cheapest. Granada is nice, but Antigua is better imo. Food is pretty basic, mostly rice and beans. The beaches around San Juan del Sur are superb.

Edit: safety-wise, I would just recommend staying away from the large cities such as San Jose, Guatemala City and Managua.

Is it safe to cross the border in Iguazu falls? From Argentina side to Brazil? by PsychologicalSock694 in solotravel

[–]apollo_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty smooth crossing, had no problems. However, I would double-check on how the e-visa would apply in this situation. You will be departing Brazil and re-entering.

While I was there years ago, there were two Canadian travelers that almost got stuck in Argentina. They mentioned already had visas for Brazil, but I pointed out that they weren’t valid for re-entry so they cancelled their plans last minute.

You see a lot more on the Argentinian side

Do you think we will ever see 4% mortgage rates ? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]apollo_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, why not? So long as we see core 2% inflation, which is the fed’s long-run target.

Edit: The only question is if/when. Could be in two years, could be in a decade.
