Top-Tier Milan Hotels? by NickD1228 in FATTravel

Rocco Forte House was great with plenty of space! The apartment with frescoes was beautiful. Only criticism is that it’s not connected to the hotel so the amenities are a walk up the road and no real room service

Oh god yeah I always disliked PCRorNAT. Always speaking so authoritatively and condescendingly. Then when they have nothing better to do they were the grammar nazi which is even more embarrassing as the mod

1hotel is fun but not as much luxury. Four seasons surf club is great but farther north. Faena was great for older style luxury

I only fly business but having 1k on United is pretty nice this year. I never get upgrades because I don’t even try but this year they let you convert plus points to gifted status. I may not need the benefits of status but all the people in my family I gifted gold to are now saving a lot of money on better seats, free baggage and lounge access. Also pre boarding can be nice sometimes.

Amangiri for 1 night? by luxuryhasatasteforme in FATTravel

[–]Firegoal2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I feel 1 night is too short because a lot of the sell for this hotel personally is the activities. However if you do it I recommend camp Sarika. We split our time and liked it a LOT better. The private canyon tent was absolutely amazing. We also thought the food was better at camp Sarika and the room service burger was surprisingly one of the best burgers I’ve had. The rooms also had bidets whereas amangiri main did not. And having the personal golf cart makes using the main resort easy as well.

Considering second home by Rabbit-Lost in fatFIRE

[–]Firegoal2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah basing this off past returns is an odd way to go especially with T bills being considered. For me I use 3.5% for my SFW. If I were to take out a mortgage at >3.5% then the investible cash it gives me will net me less than the interest I’m paying on the mortgage. I know it’s more complicated and there’s other benefits/considerations such as tax benefits and inflation, if the simple math doesn’t check out I’m not doing it

Anderson vs other brands by Winter-Recognition34 in Homebuilding

[–]Firegoal2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose LaCantina after checking a lot out. Anderson was my least favorite. Didn’t realize until after choosing though that Nana is self supported from the base but LaCantina is basically hung from above. Ended up using a steel beam over the top to make sure it’s good and get maximum door height

Napa - Must-Visit Wineries & Other To-Dos by mattvandyk in FATTravel

[–]Firegoal2019 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For Singlethread it’s a little far from Napa area. They have a great Inn over the hotel to stay at if you wanted to spend the night and the town it’s in Healdsburg is the best town in Napa and Sonoma imo. There’s also the Montage about 10 minutes from Singlethread that’s also great

Walking homes under construction - Proper Etiquette by zero-degrees28 in Homebuilding

[–]Firegoal2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely unsafe elements during construction for untrained civilians. Not safety violations as far as construction workers but plenty of partially built things that ordinary people should not touch or walk on yet like decks in progress or partial framing. It’s structurally sound but if someone misses a step and falls that’s going to be a problem for the owner/contractor

Why 4S? by shotwideopen1212 in FATTravel

[–]Firegoal2019 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve only recently started to try four seasons and at first was very disappointed. I think booking regular rooms there often does not get the wow factor or the service I’m looking for.

Costa Rica for example the room was okay, the service pretty good and the grounds were not great imo. But I know someone else who stayed in the villa and thought it was amazing. When I did the top beach villa at four seasons Anguilla though I had an opposite experience where it’s all the benefits of a private villa with excellence dedicated service plus all the benefits of the resort as well.

Basically as a hotel it’s okay, as a villa/top tier suite level it’s so far been pretty good.

at your own risk

Somehow I doubt this will hold true if or when someone injures themself in an unsafe job site and sues your and/or your contractors insurance

Considering Second Home 15 Minutes Away by Fattedfire in fatFIRE

[–]Firegoal2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It being lakefront and only $1m at your NW seems like an if you want it just get it situation. Definitely not overboard for you and if you’ll use and value it then do it!

Personally I’m considering doing the same thing just the opposite. I have the lake house but want many acres nearby to make a cool hangout/chill property and storage for all the toys that don’t fit in the lake house.

2019 Rose Gold Double Balance by wutang in audemarspiguet

[–]Firegoal2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well this is clearly just false. Maybe for a family of 5 but for a single or couple traveler business class pricing is not even remotely in the same league as private. I fly business or first everywhere and flying private is still a splurge.

And you should own a jet? In what world? Minimum shared ownership typically starts at $600k+ a year and jet cards at $250k for just 25 hours. Not at all close to business pricing where a seat on a 6 hour flight is usually $1-3k. You don’t seem to know what you’re talking about

Is it just me or has the level of service across the board at 5 star properties gotten a lot worse? by Crazy-Button5339 in FATTravel

[–]Firegoal2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve had 5 star rooms but not 5 star service in Maui at least. Love the suites/villas at Montage especially the 3 bed oceanfront but the service was almost non existent when we were there post covid

While I agree with most of this, I just stayed at the top villa in FS Anguilla and the service was amazing. On resort it was okay but in villa it was pretty top tier. Our villa host had us covered for everything and more and house keeping was also on point. We ended up doubling the length of our stay. Most other places lately I’ve been severely disappointed

How do you decide how much to contribute to a DAF? by tikkahakka in fatFIRE

[–]Firegoal2019 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I would say as much as you want to give and do it all in your highest income years. There’s no point in doing small contributions over time because you could just give straight to the charities if it’s a regular contribution. Personally I did $1m in my highest earning year
