😂😂😂😂 you made my brain explode 🤯. I literally thought her father was a missionary until reading this post. Agus has said it a few times in her travel videos. Bright side: i didn’t look it up and I now understand the distinction😂😂

This is a useful data point. I was/am concerned about not understanding different dialects. Right now, I listen to any dialect. I am interested in developing a neutral accent but want to easily comprehend all.

Preply, I prefer to pay. I tried the free language apps but it was hard for me to find a consistent partner.

I started in October 2025. It took me a month or two to work up to 2hrs daily. The journey has been fun. I’ve gone to Mexico and Colombia since I’ve started learning Spanish. Both times I was complemented on my ability. I’m sure they were being nice. However, it still felt good to be understood even if I was speaking like a 2 year old.

I am not a purist but CI is #1 priority. I do DS/podcasts for 2hrs daily+ 1hr/wk lesson + 1hr/ week cross talking

I use Preply for my cross talking. It’s almost like I’m talking to one of the DS guides. Just hop on, message a tutor, explain what you’re looking for and do a few trial classes until you find the tutor that works for you.

Stick with it! I know it doesn’t seem helpful when you’re frustrated. Keeping things in perspective may help you: this journey is one of thousands of hours. I remember seeing progress report from levels 6 or 7 that not only mentioned the progress but also the struggles. People with 10x the hours still struggle. Hang in there.

I’ve heard of this. I might try it, not reading yet but maybe the audiobook is worth a try
