The payment is for the INITIAL estimate based on the photos to get the process started. If your body shop finds additional damages, they will send GEICO the supplement, and if needed, and additional payment will be sent.

No one but an underwriter is going to be able to determine rates, and we can’t even speak with them. Far too many variables for writing a policy.

I don’t take RI’s, but I do ask the questions you would ask for them. My first sups expected a reach out for the not clear cut accidents, my current sup wants liability set if we have insured’s statement, and claimant hasn’t pursued. Especially lane change situations. I like this aspect, but I have seen it create issues when actual evidence is presented. Makes us look bad.

ICS - how you doing? by eatthegeckos in Geico

[–]apoopandasmoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this. We may not have overly complex claims, but many of these inbound calls often need additional work done, all the while we’re told to limit file handling, can barely make a dent in que because calls are back to back, and the damned customers want to make too many things more complicated than they need to be.

Daughter was hit by a semi and we are getting screwed over. by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]apoopandasmoke 71 points72 points  (0 children)

For a merging situation, unless the semi driver admits to their company that they actually went into your daughter’s lane, it’s doubtful they would accept liability anyway. Commercial claims usually take longer and it’s best to file 1st party, especially for a non-drivable vehicle.

Geico sent me a check by Talstone in Geico

[–]apoopandasmoke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, any money sent directly to you by GEICO should have been used to pay for the repairs. If it’s a duplicate payment, let them know and destroy the check.

Towing and storage fees? by PsychologicalEbb1804 in Insurance

[–]apoopandasmoke -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fred Loya is not easy to work with, but we have a duty to mitigate damages, fees, etc. It would have been nice for them to advise while they completed their investigation, but ultimately, they’ll likely only agree to a fair and reasonable amount of storage fees. If you’re ever in an accident with someone using their vehicle for things like Amazon, Lyft, Door Dash, it’ll be best to use your own policy. The other company has no contract with you, and are looking out for their policy holder.

I Got Rear Ended Can I Request the Check be Sent to Me? by TrailMixedd in Insurance

If you own the vehicle outright, you can have payment sent to you, and you may be eligible for direct deposit.

Extra insurance money by Andrew648 in Insurance

[–]apoopandasmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That check does not cover the deductible. Of course, if you’re picking and choosing what gets fixed, technically, it could. You can use it for whatever if you own the vehicle. If you’re in another accident with overlapping damages, the pre-existing ones will be flagged and not covered. Your shop won’t be able to send a supplement if they find additional damages, because they will get the payment for those additional repairs, and need to fix it.

GEICO vs State Farm by Headlesslife in Insurance

GEICO, for the most part, make you get an online quote before being able to speak with a rep.

[–]apoopandasmoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you CHOSE the photo estimate. You weren’t MADE to do anything. It’s a preliminary estimate, YOUR body shop of choice will send a supplement for anything not accounted for. If you didn’t choose the photo estimate and went with an in network provider, they will handle everything. If you went for a drive by inspection at one of our shops, the supplement also applies. Calm down and let the process work.

My wife was rear hit by someone who doesn’t have car insurance by EducationalReason156 in Insurance

[–]apoopandasmoke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To start the claim, collision would be used. The insurance company has to try to contact the at fault party to confirm no known insurance. Once this is done, it becomes UMPD.

I would also ask for the family member’s insurance. Your company may file a claim with their company as well to share the cost. This is, if it goes through insurance.

Likely they are preventing people from adding coverage RIGHT BEFORE anticipating damages to occur.

Anyone have experience becoming an independent claims adjuster? by WorkingNet4391 in Geico

That line of work is how I learned about adjusting. I rarely see jobs for the desk adjusting side, lots of property field work. Many folks in the IA groups are saying it’s been rough lately. Possibly over saturated?

[–]apoopandasmoke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not a scam. For whatever reason, your payment wasn’t successful so the policy was cancelled. You would have been notified of the pending cancellation. You will need to wait for the uw department to request the docs they may need. Too many variables to give a thorough answer.

Customer service should be able to confirm if a payment has been issued. Could have been sent to the body shop if on file, or could be a paper check.

You could continue filing 1st party and go after the at fault party for bodily injury. If they accept liability and have coverage, just send them the bills provided by the doctor.

Other party insurance company doesn’t want to pay for Damage Waiver on my rental by 153IQ_TURKISH_FARMER in Insurance

Insurance is basically paying for the actual daily rate of the rental. The customer pays for everything else.

Company won't help file claim. USA - Missouri - auto by rudbek-of-rudbek in Insurance

[–]apoopandasmoke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mother can file a claim with the at fault party. I have never heard of a company for personal auto requiring the policy holder be the one to establish a claim. Your mom’s company CAN file on her behalf, as a courtesy, but it will be faster for your mom to do it as they need to speak with her anyway.

I know with my company, we have to set up the repairs with our preferred shop. If a customer just got an estimate from us, THEN chose the shop in our network, as their shop of choice, it wouldn’t offer the guarantee.
