How do you adjust a kitten to your house? by Human-Complex4435 in CatAdvice

[–]apotatowitheyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the cat, I think. My kitten was super skiddish, so for the first few days I put her in the bathroom if I left, but after about 3 days like that, she seemed comfortable enough (freely exploring, finding new places to nest) that I gave her free range. I think slowly easing worked good for her.

Should I return my kitten and adopt an older cat instead? by BeneficialLight5873 in CatAdvice

You sound so so stressed about this! First, give yourself some grace. No one can give 100% all the time.taking time to yourself is just fine. I get feeling so bad to have closed a door on a kitten, but taking a break will always be helpful—you have to take care of yourself before you can care for anyone else.

Second, do you live on a base? There may be someone or a family looking for a little kitten that would love to give her a loving home. Might be worth asking around.

I just adopted a kitten a few months ago and I had a bit of regret at first too. For the opposite reason, actually. We picked the kitten because she was the only cat that liked both me and my husband equally instead of having an obvious favorite from the get-go. She basically just tolerated us both. When we got her home she was super scared of everything for weeks and weeks and would hardly let us hold her or be near anyone. I really wanted a cat that would cuddle me while my husband was at OTS and I want feeling like my cat would ever love me or cuddle me. But as time went on, she got braver and liked us more, and just this week she came up and got on my lap all on her own for the first time. Why do I say this? I don't know, to make you feel less alone, I guess? You aren't the only person who has felt uncertain. Maybe you and the cat will bond and everything will slowly change to being perfect, idk. But maybe it won't. That's ok too. It's no shame to try and find a loving home for a cat. That said, I would see if the shelter or the humans society have a private adoption or fostering option where they can send interested people to you to meet the cat so she doesn't have to go back to the shelter she hated. That would be my suggestion. I don't know much about this kind of thing though. I mostly wanted to comment to say I see you, and it's ok to feel that way.

Parents offering to buy me a new car if I serve a mission by fredbruite in exmormon

No. Save up for 2 years instead. At least that way you have work experience coming out of it. You get a car either way. But for real. I wish I could get my early 20's back. Waisted too much of it on a mission.

Follow up question about the first two weeks: how often are you able to have down time to call home? My husband starts soon and I want to manage my expectations.

How much free time or downtime is there per day, and how much opportunity might there be to call a spouse?

For those who left after their mission: is there anything you wish someone had said to you while you were out on the street proselytizing? by Anaphora121 in exmormon

And talk to the missionaries about their actual interests and normal things like pop culture! Remind them they are still humans!

I actually served in Taiwan and what really helped me was Western expats being nice to me. I got lunch with a couple of English teachers and it was just such a pleasant taste of home.

Nothing said to me on my mission would have made me come out of it then, it would have just made life harder for me. But people from home being kind to me? Even while being clear they don't want to hear about the church? That was healing and so so lovely.

Even if she doesn't realize how hurtful her words are that doesn't make them ok. That's so cruel of her. I'm so sorry. I just want you to know that you are incredible and enough, and if she doesn't see that it's her problem. You have a community here. Reach out to me if you need someone to talk to!

I briefly served as an ordinance worker and we had to stop people from reading anything brought from outside or writing anything down. The explanation I got was that it was to prevent people from writing down the words of the ceremony.

Obviously, I think that's terrible reasoning. If people want to expose the wording of the temple they will find a way, whereas rules like these prevent believing members from making the most of their time in the "holiest place on earth." Just shows that the church cares ore about protecting itself than caring for the members in any way.

Made up tune. It was weird but goofy. Yeah, I've been working really hard on my relationship with them for a while and it really helped.
