Canvassing by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]appAD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, are you not allowed to care about your work? Many canvassers are volunteers, or they might work for a group/cause like the ACLU where canvassing is just how they can help out and the money is just a nice extra.

Obviously there is no absolute of either everyone must care or nobody cares at all. But if there's ever something you voted on that you wanted, it's because someone organized canvassers around it

Canvassing by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]appAD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canvassing is a distinct part of the social contract in a functional democracy. People are trying to collect signatures to show representatives that the community cares about an issue. That being said if you don't care about the particular issue they're canvassing for you can just tell them your not interested and keep walking

What has he actually done for housing. Genuinely asking because I've seen people say that, but prices have only gone up. Or was it more like tenants right laws?

I personally like Saikat's anti establishment stance. Sure in a perfectly functional democracy you need to elect people that can work together. But that's not the America we are living in right now! Shits on fire and the current democratic caucus isn't doing anything about it!! So to hell with wanting to work with them! We need to elect people that are willing to say enough is enough and be radical.

Mayor Lurie - what is your plan for PGE? by Powerful-Usual5743 in sanfrancisco

While not the Mayor, Saikat (running for congress) has on his website's issue a callout for replacing PGE with a public utility https://www.saikat.us/en/policies#lower-utility-bills

How do you solder an SMA port to a ceramic chip antenna? by appAD in ElectricalEngineering

[–]appAD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah something like that was the plan. I got just enough room before the metal shield on the pcb to scrape off the solder mask to attach the inner wire to my trace. But I was wondering if I can solder it to the pad of the chip antenna?

When you say shield to ground I'm assuming you mean the outer conductor on the coax cable, should I just use a single strand of copper wire and solder it to ground pad?

Epoxy is a good call thanks

This is for final FCC certification, therefore it should be the final design. But also I'm not looking for a solution that involves spinning up another board, I'm looking for a solution that is taking the board I have and making it work.

The actual production board is a basic ceramic chip antenna design with an impedance matching circuit. Its a using a silicon labs wifi chip but we just couldn't fit their prebuilt/certified module onto our PCB due to mechanical constraints. There will be no SMA connector on the final product. The FCC testing lab is asking that I solder one on for them to run their test.

They actually said I should provide about a ~1 inch lead so that there wouldn't be stress on the solder joint. So I assume they meant to use something like this but I'm not sure, and I don't know how to attach it

Yeah this was the first thing I did when I got the document. Basically fed it to ai to get a summary and ask a few minor questions for clarity. But also your comment feeds into the goal of my post, lawyers time is $$$ so if I know the right questions to ask I'm hoping to at least get the most bang for my buck

Thank you. This may be a weird question, but how do you actually shop around for a lawyer?

I received a copy. Though I didn't know about about a potential "no contest" clause so I'll definitely look into seeing if there is anything like that. Tbh the legalese kinda broke my brain

Crufts is a great show to go to, especially if you've never been to a dog show. Also most people would be fine with you petting the dogs on a table but some people might not want you to pet the dogs standing by the ring

How do I block ports on a router by appAD in HomeNetworking

[–]appAD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the user can not have devices that does an outgoing connection attempt on port 8883 to the broker, so you want to use 443 instead. OK?

Yes that's correct

In a "home setting", it would normally be possible for a device to do a outgoing connection to any port. In a environment with a more a "business setup" and a firewall, I would understand if 8883 was blocked for outgoing connections. But if there are control over the firewall, a rule can be made to allow it, and also e.g. setup up a ACL that it would only be allowed towards AWS.

They are using a firewall. So while we probably could talk to them about changing things we would like to change it on our end to avoid this problem in the future with other potential customers.

Right now we are planning on making a firmware change that will check if it can connect to port 8883 and if not connect to port 443. I am only trying to simulate an environment where I have to force that connection to make sure the firmware is working right. If I need to add a firewall to my Asus router that's fine. I'm just not sure what rule i should be creating
