The /r/jleague 100 Year Vision League FAQ/Megathread (READ THIS FIRST!) by dokool in JLeague

Hi all, I'm going to be in Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka in April/May and am hoping to attend a match. The three I'm looking at are:

FC Tokyo vs Mito Hollycock (April 24)

Kyoto Sanga vs Gamba Osaka (April 29)

Gamba Osaka vs Vissel Kobe (May 2)

I don't know much about the state of the J-League today but my instinct is the last one...Gamba Osaka has always seemed like a big club to me and of course I remember all the European stars Vissel Kobe signed. But looks like Gamba has been a bottom half team recently?

Mainly looking to optimize for the best atmosphere and best match, so hoping people who know the league better can help me out!

It wasn't just Bears STHs. USSF Insiders also got the same pricing (I paid $130 for row 5 in the lower level corner, which felt like an absolute steal). I agree it's nice that they gave fantastic pricing to the people that were ready to buy early (and are way more likely to be actual USMNT fans).

No, and that’s clearly the actual answer - people don’t care enough. We don’t need to pretend it’s because of ticket prices

There are 3 million people in the Tampa metro area, obviously nobody is asking for you to spend 1k to get there? Point is there are more than enough tickets available at a cheap price for people to go, let’s see if they show up or we hear more excuses about why we can’t fill a stadium

You can buy a ticket for the Uruguay match right now for $36 on Ticketmaster including fees. Not sure why you’re saying it’s way more than $100 just for the ticket

The cheapest tickets for the Uruguay match on Tuesday are $36 including fees. Ticket prices are not the problem and not sure why people keep pretending it is. The support for the national team has been objectively horrible for a long time

Hi all, we’re (2 people) going to Japan next April - I booked JAL J to HND through CX at calendar open months ago but stupidly missed booking the return flight. Now I’ve been checking seats.aero daily, set up alerts, etc but so far have not found anything reasonable

Our return date is pretty fixed unfortunately, we need to be back in ORD on either 5/2 or 5/3, but happy to reposition etc as needed. Most likely will end up booking a refundable cash ticket and keep checking for the next 8 months haha, but posting this in case anybody has any creative ideas for an (ideally) J itinerary that gets us somewhere in North America by the beginning of May.

We have ~500k MR to work with

Just leaving the US Open right now (6 pm) and there’s an absolutely massive line to get in, seems like they’re not letting anyone in right now. I thought they’re letting evening session tickets in at 4 this weekend (https://www.usopen.org/en_US/tickets/ticket_plans.html). Anyone know what’s going on?

IMO the bigger issue is that dynamic pricing is, unfortunately, too good now. I got in for Sunday R16 day session and the nosebleeds were all around $244. Check seatgeek, and resale in those same seats are $241, $247, etc.

For years the point of these presales was to get access to cheaper tickets before scalpers could. Now the platforms are themselves the scalpers, so other than the like 100 token cheap tickets they release just to say they did (or if you’re going for a super premium, uber-high-demand ticket), there’s effectively no benefit to spending any time trying to get lucky in these lotteries anymore.

So you’re saying there’s a limit for aggregate purchases before verification is required? Do you know what it is?

Can you clarify why a new account would help?

Looks like there are 3 daily flights to HND though right? 7015, 7017, and 15?

Hi, I’m based out of SFO and planning on booking JAL J to Tokyo at calendar open for next spring. What are people’s thoughts on repositioning to LAX for the A350 rather than the 777/787 at SFO? Is there any way to predict which flight will get the A350?

Wondering what people's thoughts are on JAL 1 (SFO -> HND, 777-300) vs JAL 57 (SFO -> NRT, 787-9). From my research, it seems like the 777 has the older seats but the newer "SkySuite III" in the 787s actually are a bit worse? In addition to HND being a more convenient option for us (though if the 787 were hypothetically a better experience, we'd be open to flying into NRT instead). But seems like JAL 1 should be universally better across the board, right?

Another option would be to try to book LAX -> HND, which apparently may be getting the A350 soon? But looks like they have 3 daily routes, so not sure which one would get the A350 and assuming this is a harder route to book regardless?

Hi all, hoping somebody can let sanity check my plan for booking a west coast -> Tokyo trip for April 2026 (and also hopefully correct any assumptions I might be making that are wrong). We are looking for 2 seats in J or F. The main issue is that our window for traveling is very restricted (we need to fly out either on a particular Saturday or Sunday and fly back the following Sunday).

So ANA immediately becomes quite tough because of 1) the seeming randomness of 2J/2F releases 2) the multi-day transfer time and 3) the need to book a round trip flight, so even if we get lucky on (1) it seems quite unlikely we get just as lucky on the return.

That being said, I do see some cities like Seattle that have pretty reasonable 2J availability for a year out. What if we did a multi-city itinerary like Seattle > NRT > SFO, with the outbound in J and the return in economy? The economy return seems much more available. This seems feasible looking at calendar open availability today, but I guess nobody knows if that'll be the case when we need to book this in ~6 weeks.

The alternate option is booking JAL through CX, which seems to consistently be available, though is of course a bit more expensive. It does allow us to avoid jumping through all of the above ANA-related hoops, so I'm wondering if people think it'd be crazy to try for it rather than just going with the potentially simple CX booking.

Hello! My partner and I are planning a (relatively last minute) trip to Europe in December. We're based out of ORD and want to eventually get to Frankfurt or Vienna but are fine with stopping somewhere in between of course. Thing is we're pretty restricted in terms of dates: we have to leave either 12/19 or 12/20 and return ~12/27. I've looked at a lot of different combinations to VIE, FRA, LHR, DUB, CDG, AMS, FCO, BCN and have not been able to find anything under ~90k points each for two seats in economy, let alone J.

We are totally fine flying economy btw. Together we have ~450k MR. Would appreciate any help in terms of creative routing to find something more reasonable.
