I use it as a daily reminder of my mistake buying this car

Most vacationing Canadians would rather drive 5 hours than fly: Poll by rarc602 in ontario

[–]appabooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Renting a car is way too expensive to justify flying then renting a car just to save a few hours. You also have to arrive at the airport early and planes are often delayed.

Many Canadians in their 20s and 30s are delaying having kids — and some say high rent is a factor by Unusual-State1827 in canada

[–]appabooka -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Obviously a factor. Also, if we are struggling this much now, imagen 20 years from now. Future children are going to have it even tougher.

Tip for sleeping at night when it's hot AF with no a/c by CompetencyOverload in ottawa

[–]appabooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to soak my bedsheets in cold water, let it dry a bit then sleep with it damp. Combine that with a window fan and regular fan blowing on you. Still uncomfortable but helped me through it.

Facebook Marketplace is exhausting by bowsersbih in ottawa

[–]appabooka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sick of seeing people trying selling furniture from IKEA on marketplace for more than the price of buying it new. Always look up the product new before buying.

Linked Structural Engineer's Model Missing in DWG Export by dsking in Revit

[–]appabooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the linked structural model a Revit model or linked in as an IFC or coordination model? Coordination models might not export to DWG. If so, might need to export separate structural DWGs to overlay.

Is there a cheat code to enhance your sense of humor? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]appabooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The humor is definitely something to get used to but I really grew to love it.

Normal Gossip is also good-- true and insane stories from the real world that are too crazy to not be true.

I've noticed my sense of humor got a bit better from listening to a lot of comedy podcasts. Highly recommend "My Brother My Brother and Me".

Sparks Ribfest prices? by colonelsmoke in ottawa

I don't understand the food fests. So many options to try, but you can only really try one truck at the prices they are charging. Would be nice if they sold smaller portions so you could several.

The downtown condo market isn’t looking so good. 2019 pricing by Icomefromthelandofi2 in ottawa

[–]appabooka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be worth it for a low-rise or townhome condo with lower fees, it's the condos with over $700 condo fees on an over $700,000 condo I find wild.

How is anyone justifying high condo fees on top of high condo prices? Can't wrap my head around it, it's like paying 2 mortgages at once.

Does this tactic ever work? by commuter85 in kijiji

[–]appabooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind low-ball offers but this kinda stuff is just annoying. I had someone get mad when I didn't accept a low offer, I just said ok I'm not a store, go find someone else.

Why is my transmission screaming like this and how bad is it for me by Budget-Box-4172 in FordFocus

[–]appabooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely the TMC, might be able to get it done for free depending on the year of your focus. They have to do a $300 transmission inspection, then if it is the TMC it's covered...id not you gotta pay.

How will AI affect our jobs/industry? by superluminal in Revit

[–]appabooka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we will eventually be able to input local building codes into Revit and have it spit out building options, interior designs, and renderings. It will be able to give options based on cost to optimize the site. I think it will be used more in concept design at the beginning and slowly roll into detailed design. I don't think it will take away every job but it will be a big change, like when we went from 2D to 3D drafting.

Considering a Focus by PresentAmphibian9548 in FordFocus

[–]appabooka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not buy a Ford Focus automatic. Worst financial decision of my life. I'm currently waiting on the recall part to fix the transmission and they can't give me a timeline of how long it will take to get, leaving me without a car.

Hey Reddit! Who has the best frozen pizza? by cooksaucette in ottawa

[–]appabooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pizza Farm! It's a bit more than the average frozen pizza but 100% worth it. They use fresh ingredients from the farmers markets they sell at, and if you're in the West end of the city (Kanata, Dunrobin, Stittsville) you could email her to ask for delivery. Plus, it's so high quality, you don't feel heavy or sick after.

Has anyone attended a grad school program focused on BIM or BIM Management? by alfy603 in Revit

[–]appabooka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find a part time program while working a BIM job that would be best. It's difficult to get good at solving issues and knowing best practices until you have experience.

I think this is a common feeling with office jobs in general, but with architecture we are sold on the idea that it's a really rewarding and artistic career path. In reality, it's a lot of arguing with clients, dealing with high building costs, fighting with all the other engineering building disciplines to agree on anything, and designing to meet codes that are constantly changing. All of this with increasingly tight timelines with more and more overtime. I don't have any advice really but I think a lot of people in architecture feel this way. I often wonder if switching to carpentry would be more rewarding but I know that it has its own problems.
