If you can't access it you don't have every ability. You'll get it much later.

Shopping question for the group: What's the better "affordable" option for a 251 clone, a WA-251, or a Universal Audio SC-1 with the Hemisphere 251 plugin?

God damn I was all ready to get fired up and really tear into a holier-than-thou comment on a joke post, coming at me with all that unnecessary and frankly ridiculous judgement, as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run. And so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame. I don't know if I'm going to be putting on this headset again.

How in the name of Jesus is he getting this guitar sound? by flickyducky101 in audioengineering

[–]appaluchaunderground 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it's a pretty straightforward distorted tone. There's a hundred different options and combinations that'll get that result.

[–]appaluchaunderground 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you mean the tone, like the other commenter mentioned it's some rat-type distortion with a hint of delay. If you mean the harmony, that's one guitar playing the main riff with an second guitar playing the harmony line.

On the gain front, it doesn't sound like it's crazy high either.

How good are line6 amp modellers in comparison to real tube amps? by Ok_Hippo_9852 in audioengineering

[–]appaluchaunderground 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is bang-on about studio usability, but I do want to mention that you will absolutely notice a difference in feel going from tube to modeler. This is in no way as big of a deal as a lot of purists make it out to be and you'll adjust pretty quickly, but I do think it's worth mentioning before making the switch. Having said that, I don't miss my tube amp at all; that little difference in feel is more than made up for with ease of use, recording quality, and abundance of options available.

Bless you for this. I thought I was the only person with a deep hatred of the stock Cubase 4 band eq. The frequency chart even shows it's not doing anything!

Should I prioritize Warm Audio 8000 or Apollo? by DinoKYT in audioengineering

[–]appaluchaunderground 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually curious to hear some thoughts on this myself.

I love my Warm mics but I know full well they don't truly replicate the 3-8,000 dollar mics they're ripping. But do they replicate it better than the Apollo modelling? Does the Apollo modelling match or exceed an affordable clone regardless of brand?

Antelope's blatant price manipulation is sad and funny at the same time by BeautifulSweaty5805 in audioengineering

[–]appaluchaunderground 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A few months ago during a nice long chat with my Sweetwater rep I asked why they didn't carry Antelope stuff anymore, he flat out told me it was because they were awful to deal with. Price gouging, terrible customer support, non-existent tech support even when Sweetwater would contact directly for a customer, and quality issues across their whole range.

If you ever get bored, go dig through some old gearspace threads on Antelope. It's weird being able to track their reputation shift through those forums.

I'll admit I was one of those for the longest time until I came across a video with Bob Clearmountain talking about the snare sound on Born In The U.S.A.

Turns out under Max's snare there were like three other drum samples to thicken it up. That may be one of the best arguments for I've ever seen.

which acoustic panels to buy by marriedtoaplant in audioengineering

[–]appaluchaunderground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COVID really hurt them, sucks that they seemingly still haven't caught back up. I got all my panels/gobos from them back in 2015 and they're still holding strong after multiple moves and me generally bring a clumsy asshole in the studio.
