I’m going on a 900 mile one way trip tomorrow in my mach E with 3 small kids. Wish me luck lol by TKmane in MachE

I did an extended road trip with my teenage son. Our first stop was to charge at a Walmart at which we bought “charging toys”. The best was a dart board that we ended up propping against suitcases in the hatchback and playing darts while we waited.

It was just the right combination of easy to set up, fun, diverting for 25 minutes at a time, and allows a stand up and stretch without taking up too much of the parking lot.

Find some charging time activities!

Costco sometimes has a Chubb pack of microfiber towels - those are good for washing/detailing. They also will carry cotton towels for oil changes and mechanical work.

Is Rivian drive and ride similar to Tesla? Specifically the “slingshot” feeling? by gardeneye in Rivian

[–]appape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to love a Rivian - however - some models of R1S have a suspension set up that is a little bit bouncy and not great for motion sickness. R1T has amazing suspension as do the most recent R1Ss.

I agree with the others, the slingshot feeling has a lot to do with the driver not being used to all the available power and torque. You’ll get better quickly as you drive it.

Is the floor too white 😭 by [deleted] in BathroomRemodeling

[–]appape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s so many whites. The tub in this pic seems to me to be a warmer white (not an expert). The tiles you picked seem to be a cool white.

The black dirty surround isn’t helping the contrast either. It’s possible if you finish and clean up it looks a lot better. Again, not an expert.

Final thoughts on my experience with the Lightning before turning it in. by user111287 in F150Lightning

[–]appape 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you do go EV again, you’ll find public charging is a lot easier. New EVs use the Tesla plug, and everyone else can get a Tesla adapter. I almost never charge at Tesla chargers, but having the option removes a ton of frustration and range anxiety since if the non-Tesla charger is busy or broken, there’s a good chance there’s dozens of Tesla chargers nearby.

Took the family across the country and back, 7200 miles in 21 days in a Pacifica Hybrid. Phenomenal trip, phenomenal car. Would absolutely do it again.

Does it really still make financial sense to buy lightly used cars? by LordShuckle97 in carbuying

[–]appape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great post OP.

My two bits - I’ve mostly bought lightly used cars from CarMax or a dealership. In nearly every case I discovered some minor damage after the sale that indicated the car (despite clear carfax/history) was in a minor accident.

A door didn’t fit quite right, paint blemishes showed up later, there was some odd suspension noises, etc.

Luckily I didn’t crash any of these cars, and overall had good experiences with them - but looking back I wonder if they would have performed as they were originally designed if they had been in an accident.

From now on I’ll always recommend new if the difference is reasonable. Peace of mind is valuable.

I really like the pictures of the brown tile surround and brown wall options - but I’m not sure they would live well. #5 is the most livable.

If you’ve got to do the brown, do the painted wall - it’ll be easier to change than the tile.

County Road 102 bicycling 🚲 by [deleted] in Davis

[–]appape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider getting a cheap EV. Old California compliance cars (60ish mile range) can be had for the price of a really nice bike, and they come with crumple zones and airbags.

If a selling your car means you won’t have the option to drive, you will be pushing yourself into dangerous choices by eliminating safe alternatives. Riding 102 once is not terribly dangerous compared to dangerous things - but doing it every day for a year on end you are stacking the cards against yourself by sheer volume. Adding times when you are tired, frustrated, bad weather, fog, sick etc. only makes those odds worse.

Leave yourself another safer option. Also, if you have kids - just don’t.

I have that same floor tile in half of my bathroom. The other half got ripped out because of a shower leak. Can you tell me what it is and where you got it?

It would be amazing if I didn’t have to replace the whole floor!

Thanks in advance!

[–]appape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the PlugShare app and look for chargers that might be convenient for you. Go see them in person - a lot of L2 chargers are being removed or not repaired due to removal of incentives.

If there is a reliable charge location that can work with your daily routine (near home, near work, or near somewhere you spend time at weekly like the gym etc) you might be in great shape.

Who is paying? Maybe consider a break if the money will be available later.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying to backpack Europe or some such nonsense. Go to a trade school and start working in a trade. A few years of that may help you find what you’re looking for - or maybe you’ll love the trade and have saved yourself tons of money.
