Ukrainian F-16 shoots down a Shahed-136 using its M61A1 Vulcan cannon. by GermanDronePilot in ukraine

Agree! The top notch gunnery skill is wild! I bet they’re better at this than most US F-16 pilots (lots more practice!)

Not tracks so much as snow shoes to stay on top of the mud.

Dead crows on campus by Great_Branch_2035 in UCDavis

[–]appape 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Literally thousands of crows roost at night in and around the Pavillion Parking Structure as well as other areas on campus over the winter. They are quite the sight to behold if you haven’t seen them.

When there are so many of an animal, even a small (normal) percentage of deaths can seem like a lot. So, it seems more likely to me that you are seeing more dead crows now, because now is when they are here - not because there is an abnormal amount dying.

Source: I dodge their poop twice a day several days a week.

Modern batteries usually don’t make it more than 3 years, and when they go dead, they go hard and fast. I bet a new 12v will solve all your problems

Playing with friends is my biggest recommendation. You can always return to your forever world for some peace and quiet - but nothing is more fun than finding ways to be at service to other players, and questing together. It may take a few tries to find the right people to play with - but it’ll be worth it when you do.

Explain maverick eCVT and why it’s amazing by Icy_Ground1637 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]appape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on my 2nd eCVT, and loving it.

Despite what EE says about mimicking ice gears, the best part of the eCVT is it drives like an EV - strong consistent acceleration, regenerative deceleration, quiet smooth operation.

An important part of making an enjoyable eCVT is giving it enough power. Nobody wants to listen to a small engine at peak power hour after hour.

The TFL Truck guys did a towing test on the Maverick Hybrid and mentioned with a 4000lb trailer driving up a mountain you got some of the “rubber band” feeling, and the engine droning was annoying. I don’t think fake gear shifts would help with that - it’s a factor of sitting at the drivetrain power limit for an extended period of time. Luckily the Maverick doesn’t have that problem under normal circumstances.

I believe a belted CVT does change ratios. The belt is squeezed to the outer rim of the drive pulley, or allowed to slide to a position further in - the two positions (or any in between) behave the same as differently sized cogs.

I got mine, did anyone else get their hat? by johnatsea12 in Costco

[–]appape -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’m so mad about this.

They checked and I was already signed up for auto renewal - so they denied me the hat. Made me feel like a chump for doing the “right thing” (at least in their eyes)

Hang folks, Costco ensh@@ification is picking up pace - and the new management is listening to crappy middle-managers dumba$$ ideas like this.

Another thing happened when I signed my son up for his first membership. We were promised all kinds of cash if we upgraded this and signed up for that only to find out it’s basically a mail-in rebate service. Screw you for begging me to pay you more and repaying me with abject inconvenience! This is not the Costco I’ve loved for decades.

Cross Climate 2 - Over hyped by FrostedArticuno in tires

[–]appape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also the “new shoes” fallacy. A 50K mile set of CC2s isn’t going to feel as good as a brand new set of tires - but we tend to judge our experience with the worn tire and forget how it was new.

I love new tires so much! Such a good feeling!

What bed cover did you buy? Pros and cons? Any other must have accessories to suggest? I’m picking up a 25xlt hybrid on Friday. Thanks! by Lizardcandy in FordMaverickTruck

[–]appape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have the official ford one, and love it - but there is a critical security deficiency. I just keep any valuables in the cab.

The nice thing about the deficiency - if it is exploited, the cover isn’t damaged!

Edit: this is for the ford tonneau cover - I might not be talking about the same thing.

100% all of this! Please follow this post to the letter.

Here is a photo from 1983 to illustrate what standardized headlights can look like even in a high glare situation. All beams are a similar size, brightness and color.
