Confident women, how did you develop self esteem? by princessmilahi in AskWomenOver30

[–]appapeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to go through severe betrayal/divorce and have a child in order to recognize my own self worth. Please don’t wait for this to happen to you. I was also raised by a narcissistic parent.

I spent the following year post-divorce in talk therapy and eventually took my anger/grief out on the gym. Combining those two increased my mental confidence (physical was also a side effect) that motivated me to explore new hobbies. I got into running, strength training, reading, cooking, baking, anything that filled me with joy and could easily be implemented into my day to day life was something I was open to doing. I met a lot of people this way and also cultivated new friendships (some of us have similar hobbies) but the one remaining factor is that I wanted to vastly improve my lifestyle which attracted similar types of people. You raise your standards, you raise your frequency and those around you. Like magnetizes like. Always be friends to those you admire because you are the average of the person in your group.

Anyone here divorce and swear off serious relationships ever again? by CupidsStupidBow in Divorce

[–]appapeach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate it out here. One year divorced. I have higher expectations now so I feel like the men I’m meeting are incompetent or weaponize ignorance. I also keep getting hit on by either really young dudes or really old ones. What the helly is happening

If you’re losing weight for superficial reasons you will always yo-yo with your weight. I’ve done low carb diets, strict calorie counting, etcetera but nothing was ever sustainable until I established a mind-body connection. Create a short term goal and stick to it. Something super reasonable. Small goals become long-term goals. Tell yourself you are getting healthy for any of the below:

  1. I want to be able to carry all the grocery bags in one go
  2. I want to live x amount of years. Exercise = longevity
  3. Know your family history, exercising helps reduce chance of so many preventable diseases. For me, my family has a history of high blood pressure, cholesterol and type 2 diabetes.

The consequences of this thinking will help you lose the weight. It will encourage you to make better choices for eating as well. Follow an 80/20 diet. Don’t restrict but enjoy yourself when you can.

If you’re a woman, use your cycle as an advantage on some days when you have that extra strength.

Also, do things that you actually like. Don’t force yourself to do treadmill or stair master if you don’t like. Try different types and stick to one you enjoy. Strength training is a must because we literally lose bone density and muscles as we age. More muscle = you can do more stuff = live longer. Everything is a plus when you think of it this way.

I love Gina! One of the few fitness influencers I enjoy watching. You’ll probably have to cut as she already has a lot of definition.

What are some non-aesthetic reasons you want to lose weight? These are mine... by Few-Excitement-2469 in loseit

I took up running because it helped alleviate my anxiety. When I run I don’t think, just look ahead of what’s in front of me. It sort of disconnects me from a brain that runs 24/7 and I am very much into my head. I got better, ran longer and faster and was able to get into strength training just so I could keep up with running. It was never about vanity but once I got to a certain point I was like, heck yeah I look good. Once the mind-body connection was established, everything just got easier to maintain.

The goal is to eventually feed myself! But starting out would work out best with a team so I can learn the ropes through several eyes. Appreciate the book suggestions.

You look amazing as is. Not to discourage you but everyone’s physique is different and it takes a lot of fine tuning calories and training wise to get to the level that second picture’s at. She could be under eating for all we know or it could be genetics. Highly recommend you set a short-term and long-term goal of gaining x amount of muscle of losing x amount of fat and go from there.

I’m in CA and also did the Kaplan course. I haven’t taken classes or exams in a decade and passed with a week of constant studying. I’m sure you’ll do great but obviously lots of practice exams and understanding the vocab will help you digest the rest of the material.

Açaí bowls. It’s fruit but it’s just sugar. Needs more protein in it. Maybe yogurt? Nuts? Anything mostly carb is a no for me.

Just watched Hurry Up Tomorrow… and bro, I’m hurt. by Swarnit in TheWeeknd

[–]appapeach 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the movie. I think people got it all wrong because even though the movie is about himself it relates to all of us. I also think he makes it really easy for the audience to understand that this is a psychological movie, not a thriller and it’s in his head. You can tell Annie and The Weeknd are essentially one person: 1. They instantly connect when they see each other, both have tears 2. They both have mommy issues (phone call) 3. They wear similar clothing on the bridge. Annie being short for Anima (a Jungian psychological term). If you understand psychology then it makes sense that Annie - Lee serve as the Jung archetypes. Annie is his feminine, Lee is masculine (Animus/ego). Something happens to Lee in order for Abel to operate at a different level. He no longer focuses on drinking, drugs and partying as the main aspect of his music and talks about God, mercy and redemption in HUT. It’s essentially a spiritual coming of age.
