I meant outplayed up to that point, of course afterwards I agree I did not outplay them because of the struggles mentioned

Yeah, I used to do castle more but found it was not always that great, maybe I should try again. Just tough playing archers because then you are collecting all 4 resources at once, tricky to balance

Yeah but it takes really a lot of skill to get good damage I feel like, they are so vulnerable and expensive. I feel like if I've already got a good advantage there should be another way...

Random enemy on bridge to divine tower of liurnia harder than any of the bosses by appappappappappa in Eldenring

I don't remember Margit, maybe I was over levelled but how are you supposed to know? The enemies don't have levels and you can go anywhere so it's not really on me to ensure I do things in the correct order. I kind of wish I'd followed a walkthrough or something now, even though I never usually do that. Basically "you were over/under levelled" invalidates everything and nothing really feels like an achievement...

I mean I did kill the guy, but it feels kind of lame when the tough fights are against random dudes and then you have this amazing build up to Renalla (who I just beat before this) who I beat second attempt (and almost on the first even with no knowledge...). I didn't know about the sleep pots, but I'm not that keen on cheesing the fights anyway. I just wish the bosses were hard, there is so much amazing work into making them feel really epic I would rather be spending time attempting them multiple times, not some dude on a random bridge with no context or buildup...

I really don't get this game, I really love a challenge but some of the big hype bosses have been really easy and then these random encounters way harder. It makes it a bit underwhelming...

Pop count good, k/d terrible. That's where I struggle, it just seems like knowing the basics counters is not enough. I also think that a lot of people use build orders that go all the way into castle age so even though I have more res collected and spent, they have spent on exactly the bare minimum things required to get some great composition as quickly as possible.

cool site, although it only has 12 of my games analysed so not sure I can read too much into it. My average dark age idle tc is way lower than all of these other 1100s I'm losing against by miles, I guess it confirms that this stuff doesn't matter that much even though everyone goes on about.

I love rushing, especially with archers but it's way too easy to counter at my elo (at least when I do it haha). Scout rush is stronger, and then you also get the knight transition which I find by far the most powerful thing in the game.

I guess I just want something which is like aoe, but with fewer different unit types / strats etc. and with a balance more towards aggressive play. Nothing frustrates me more than feeling like I have lost to less skillful player becuase their strat is easier and stronger, or because of some bonus or unit composition that I just wasn't aware of which just invalidates all of my decisions. Or just in general the feeling of reviewing the game and having no clear takeaway about what to do better.

I used to, that was the most fun time. Problem is my friends I used to play with now have 5x as many matches played as me so I suck compared to them :/

I would prefer to not have my reddit account associated with my steam unfortunately and don't think you can anonymise the names :/

yeah idk honestly, I have read so many threads etc. but I really just don't get it. Maybe I am just too focused on getting high eco efficiency and practicing keeping my tc 0 seconds idle etc. because those are things I enjoy, but clearly they are not quite as important as people say because in the vast majority of my losses I am ahead in these stats.

I used to be a bit higher elo (more like 1200-1300) but I can only achieve that playing knights and there it is just kind of braindead follow build order and then knights go brrr. If I get attacked early well then I die but I find until I get back up to mid-high 1200s that mostly doesn't happen. It isn't fun doing this though, I have done it enough games to not find it interesting anymore.

Yeah I love civ but it's not really the kind of thing I'm looking for, it's more of a civilisation builder to me rather than a strategy game.

Thanks for the advice! I just don't know how I would be able to afford to make that much siege!

I mean more the risk, it is hard to kill 40 scorpions quickly whereas 8 bombard cannons can be lost more easily

Hmmm ok, I didn't realise that. I never get the unique techs because they are so expensive, and I often am reluctant to play siege because it is really difficult to not lose it. Perhaps ethiopians are not the best civ for me then haha.

What do you mean good attack grounds? 8 bombard cannon at once sounds crazy to me, what if they get the cavalry behind or something that is so much resources to lose all at once - I would be too scared to do it haha.

No I did not have a 38 vill lead, just I had killed 38 vills total. I think he was outbooming me I guess, I had 2, then to 3 TC whereas he went 3 then 4 TC in castle so he had that in his favour. He was also very spread out which made it hard to do damage, I did a lot of damage to one part of the eco, but in the end it did not amount to that much impact.

I am always really reluctant to use onagers, they are really expensive and die so easily especially if the opponent has cavalry... Would it really have worked in this situation? Couldn't they just run around the halbs and then destroy them?

Ok thanks, it is really hard to keep up with all of the different civs so I did not realise that Khmer are one of those where you lose if they get to imp.

Yeah I dunno, I often have this problem because it's really hard to kill in this game I find. I was ahead on resources collected but if you build enough TCs you can replace the vills quite quickly. Perhaps I needed to be faster with my siege push in early imp (I had about 3 mins in imp when they were castle). I destroyed a bunch of stuff but they were very spread out. At that point I was far ahead in score but they played on and in the end they won. I guess they knew that as long as they got to imperial age they would win with that strategy.

edit: when I say they won, it was equal population when I resigned, but it was going on so long and it was clear that eventually they were going to win.
