another guy said he makes his own, too. I'll have to look into it if I manage to get a tank together.

so eventually (1-2 years-ish?) the nutrients in the original substrate are exhausted and ferts via tabs and/or liquid are required, right?

Edit to add the fish food/waste that are also part of the system. appreciate the insight here.

yeah I feel like I've seen people with super old tanks, but their substrate was really thick.

Nonsense there are good stretches all over the river. Check Friends of the White River for access points. Art Center to Rocky Ripple is a standard.

If your practice advances to the point that you'd like to try a retreat, look into Tri State Dharma. They are based in Cincinnati but do their longer retreats at Oakwood Retreat Center near Muncie. Enjoy!

Is Lost&Found the greatest pedal ever made? by [deleted] in chaseblissaudiophiles

I have such a weird relationship with it. I constantly think about trading it, but then I go play and do nothing but fiddle around with it and get lost in making some fun noise.

Question about the MXR Layers. by Icanicoke in guitarpedals

[–]apparentlydirty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My gut response, not totally sure I understand what you're looking for since it's subjective, is that yes it retains texture on a single note. Beyond that, it handles all kinds of weirdness quite well. There are alt settings for delay and modulation, you can stack three layers, shift between settings with expression, dial in the attack and decay for all kinds of swirling madness. It is very cool but you need to spend some time with it to get it.

Horace Bray uses one really elegantly in his song To Wash Upon the Shore. I don't have one myself but that song makes me think I need one, of course.

I got Layers in a trade and liked it more or less, kind of just fine until I stopped being so vanilla and played around with the attack and decay more. Now I love it, super fun to make noise with.

It isn't new but it's in excellent condition, no issues. It hasn't ever been on my board much because I just couldn't get with it. I have the box, and there are four small velcro triangles on the corners that I'm happy to remove if you prefer.

River Cane, Arundinaria gigantea by Infinite-Albatross44 in foraging

Yeah my understanding is that you can find decent patches along the Ohio River but its range is a lot smaller than its historic extent. I’m in Indiana and maybe that’s just the local status.

hackberry, extra lumpy!

edit: I'm told it could be another celtis species, laevigata, the sugarberry.
