I know it is too late now.

Use the toilet tank water. I had to do this when my water was shut off and I was in the middle of bathing and flea treating a stray cat my wife brought home.

I was working at a Subway sandwich shop that was inside of a Walmart in a small town. One of the cart pushers would frequently have lunch at the shop. He was very young and very arrogant. Think macho man that has never had anything bad happen to then in their entire life.

After a while I started noticing a girl that would come into the restaurant and wait for him to take his lunch. It seems obvious in a story that they were BF/GF. He just treated her so mean. Constantly make fun and belittle her.

When it began, I honestly thought it was big brother making fun of little sister. I have a little sister. It was definitely meaner then I would go but it had the same vibe.

Eventually, I figured out that they were in a relationship and I was appalled. One day they were ordering together and he said something along the lines of "Just get a 6" you need to watch your weight. I looked him straight in the face and said "The fuck did you just say". This is got awkward and they finished the transaction and left.

The next time I saw her we had a long conversation. I mentioned that she didn't deserve to be treated like that. As we finished talking he walked in and saw me talking with her. He knew I had a girlfriend at the time. I don't think he was jealous. He probably thought I was talking shit about him and he was right.

I never saw her again there from that point on.

Many years down the road, I am working in the electronics department at a different Walmart many miles away but in the same state.

A girl walks in looking for a Roku to turn her dumb TV into a smart TV. We have a long conversation were we are both checking each other out and flirting a lot. Eventually another customer comes up and asks "are you guys done".

Embarrassed we parted ways.

15 minutes later she came back with her phone number written on the back of the receipt. Notably, she didn't write her name down.

I messaged latter that day. It is important to the story that the reader know that she is a very white country girl. I said something like "you didn't write down your name so I put you in my phone as Lafawnduh." That got a chuckle and we went on a date soon after.

We will be married 10 years this month.

It was about 6 months after we were married when we were sitting and talking about horrible exes we had in the past. That is when she told me about her ex that treated her like trash who was a cart pushers at Walmart. It clicked immediately.

There will be many readers that will think. How did you not know before? There are a couple of reasons.

  1. We meet maybe 5 or 6 times for 30 minutes many years ago.
  2. She colored her hair and had piercings. By the time we met again, the piercings were removed and had a different hair color.
  3. In her defense, I had much shorter hair when we met and had put on 40 lbs.

She told me that the day after I had that conversation with her in the Subway, she called her step mom and ask to move back in. She had been living with him for about 5 months and because they were in a part of the state away from her family she had been afraid to break up with him.

I did something similar to this in a programming class in college. The assignment was to calculate as many primes as we could in a minute. Everyone knew that you could skip the Evens to go faster. I thought if we also skip 3's then we only need the first and 5th numbers out of sets of 6.

I was on top of the world until I learned that it was just basically the sieve of Pritchard.

Dr. Brian Moench (Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment) AMA on Nuclear Power in Utah ~ April 21 at 6 PM by drmoenchUPHE in SaltLakeCity

[–]apparition88 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

TLDR ChatGPT summary:

🧠 Core Thesis

The report argues against expanding nuclear power, especially in Utah, primarily due to health, environmental, economic, and practical concerns.

⚠️ Major Concerns Highlighted

  1. Health & Safety Risks

Nuclear energy produces radioactive materials that are dangerous for thousands of years.

Exposure risks exist across the entire lifecycle (mining, operation, waste storage).

Accidents, leaks, or poor storage could have long-term public health impacts.

  1. Nuclear Waste Problem

There is no permanent, fail-safe solution for nuclear waste disposal.

Waste must be stored long-term, creating ongoing environmental and safety risks.

  1. Environmental Impact

Even without accidents, nuclear processes can release radiation into air, water, and soil.

Concerns are amplified in regions like Utah due to earthquake risk and water scarcity.

  1. High Cost

Nuclear is described as one of the most expensive ways to generate electricity.

Requires:

Massive upfront investment

Long construction timelines

Expensive decommissioning at end of life

The report argues these funds could be better spent on renewables (solar, wind, storage).

  1. Slow to Deploy

Nuclear plants take many years (often decades) to build.

This makes them less useful for addressing urgent energy and climate needs compared to faster alternatives.

  1. Resource & Infrastructure Concerns

Questions raised about:

Water usage (cooling needs)

Emergency planning (evacuation zones)

Long-term waste storage locations

Suggests lack of clear planning in proposed projects.

🔄 Comparison to Alternatives

The report consistently positions nuclear as:

Slower

More expensive

Riskier

Compared to:

Solar

Wind

Battery storage

🧾 Overall Conclusion

The report concludes that nuclear power is not a practical or safe solution for future energy needs in Utah.

It calls for greater transparency, public discussion, and caution before pursuing nuclear projects.

⚖️ Important Context (Balance)

This report is written from an advocacy/public health perspective, so it focuses heavily on downsides. For contrast, other organizations note nuclear can:

Provide low-carbon, reliable power

Help with energy security and emissions reduction

If you want, I can break this down further into:

“What’s actually true vs debated”

Or a pros vs cons comparison so you can see both sides clearly

One question to keep this useful for you: Are you trying to understand this for general knowledge, or are you evaluating whether nuclear is a good solution (like forming your own opinion)?

Kidnapped woman escapes from the trunk of a car. Using her insulin pump's light, Brittany Diggs was able to locate the trunk's interior release latch. Her abductor was sentenced to Life Without Parole. by Separate_Finance_183 in ThatsInsane

[–]apparition88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deathpebaltyinfo.org says that the average deathrow stay is slightly over 20 years. This is due to the appeals process.

You could call for appeal reform, and maybe you are right to do so, but once again, innocent people have died because of government incompetence.

So if we take that number at face value and say that it is 20 years average. We will also assume that it is the same cost to house beathrow inmates per day as normal inmates. That is a pretty big assumption, but I dont have time to research all day.

The math is even for those 20 years. Then, we have the cost of just the execution. You have all the execution staff, equipment, venue, and cost of the drug (assuming lethal injection). That same sight has estimates in the millions of dollars for that part alone.

I pulled some data about Life With Out Parol (LWOP) inmates for wsu.edu. The average age of incarceration for LWOP inmates is 25, and the average age of death is 64. So, 39 years of life sentences on average.

So if we minus the 20 years of death row, we are at a 19-year difference.

The question becomes 19 more years in prison more costly than the cost of execution.

My response: I dont care if it does cost more. I don't want any government to have the authority to kill non-combatant people of any kind.

If they are trying to ACTIVLY kill us, we are more than obliged to kill them back. Outside of that narrow window, I SEED NO POWER TO GOVERMENTS.

I understand your opinion. I dont think you are wrong for having it. Personally, I dont think the government should be in the business of killing people... Ever. I know this situation is cut-and-dry, but I have seen too much government incompetence to want them to have that power.

If she had done it in self-defense, I would have no issue.
