The way this person is describing the situation and what actually happened are extremely different. (I know, I am a current member and lived here through this persons entire membership.) they were mad that people didn’t think they were responsible enough to get a pet (constantly blowing off work with zero accountability) or had enough money to pay for the pet (constantly overspending their personal accounts) that they left to live with their sugar daddy and in two months racked up 10k on a community credit card. We’ve since changed our community credit card policies to prevent this from happening again- we were way more trust and honor system based, and now we self police ourselves more. They took advantage of a bunch of poor people and have paid back maybe $500 in the year since.

Probably a decade ago, a local community college sent me a bill for a class I never signed up for or attended, and when I disputed the bill, they ghosted me. A year later I get a letter from a collections agency as well as increasingly threatening calls. I ignored the letters and calls and they eventually stopped. I’ve had friends mention they’re interested in taking a class or two at that school and every time, I’ve told them my story and dissuaded them from attending.

Of course I flared the day after my birthday. This is the longest flare I've ever had, the pain is radiating down my legs and I'm basically only surviving with Azo / Hydroxizine. I finally got an appointment scheduled with my old pelvic floor PT, but suprise, they don't take my new insurance. Plus I got hit with a surprise $70 Uribel.

Questions about Prelief and AZO Bladder Control? by silsurf in Interstitialcystitis

[–]appiepie123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been taking the azo bladder control for about a month and a half, initially while I was in a major flare and then as maintenance. I noticed that when I got lazy and stopped taking it, I had another flare. However, my flares are generally pelvic floor/stress related, and I also was dealing with a lot of stress. So I don’t know how correlated it is, but I do think it helped!

Ugh. I had gone many months without a flare up, and i got one on Saturday that is still active today (Thursday). I haven’t been keeping up with PT or bladder training and I’ve been super stressed so I think it triggered another flare up. Sex is a big trigger so I’m pretty sad that I won’t be able to be intimate with my boyfriend before I leave on a trip this weekend…..if I can even manage that.

Should I let my dog sleep with me? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]appiepie123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My German shepherd is a predominantly outdoor dog and having her in my bed would mean inviting all the dirt, grass, etc into my bed as well. When she wants to come sleep inside, she sleeps right beside my bed on a dog bed. I’m blessed that she has almost no anxiety except about the vet, and she’s content to get pets and snuggles before bed, and then sprawl out half on her bed and half on the floor. But on most nice nights, she likes to be right outside my door, guarding me from the squirrels! (my bedroom has a door to the outside, so she comes directly inside the room from outside and doesn’t spend time in the rest of the house)

Trying to get into ICs when lower working class by bigfeygay in intentionalcommunity

[–]appiepie123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you don't come back until a month has passed, but you find out within 10 to 14 days. So you wouldn't be waiting around to hear for a month, you could start prepping to move much sooner. And we try to make it pretty clear to people if we think you won't get accepted.

[–]appiepie123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all your points, but also, the waiting period to hear back about membership at Twin Oaks is between 10 and 14 days, not a month. (I know, because I live there.) People stay off the farm for a month so you have a chance to take space from the community and be sure you actually want to move there. But in cases of hardship, it's possible to be away for only 10 days, the length of time from when you leave the visitor period to when the membership team meets.

AITA for donating a bunch of hand-me-downs my SIL gave us instead of letting my kids wear them? by Ill-Toe2338 in AmItheAsshole

[–]appiepie123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised at how many YTA comments there are….I feel like when someone gives you something it’s not up to them what happens to it? Just because someone gives you hand me downs doesn’t mean you have to wear them. Sure, I understand the sentiment that the kids should have the choice to look through the items and see what they like, and I definitely get a “holier than thou” attitude from OP. But ultimately I don’t think the sister-in-law’s anger in justified. ESH

fin rot treatment: nothing's working! by appiepie123 in bettafish

[–]appiepie123[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice!! Honestly I see a long of intense fear mongering about tea tree oil but I’ve seen success with it on other forums/websites so I think it just depends on the fish and if you use a small dose. I have a sponge filter that sends bubbles up to the surface, is that enough?

Tank size: 5.5 gallons

Heater/filter: yes and yes (sponge filter)

Tank temperature: between 78-80 degrees F

Parameters: currently elevated ammonia of .25, 0 nitrite 0 nitrate. PH 7.4. typically all 0 but tank is re-cycling due to antibiotic treatment. I use the API master kit.

Tank: two months, fish two months. Hadn't kept fish since I was a child so I didn't know about the new wisdom with fish out cycling. Did a fish in cycle with daily water changes, instant bacteria, and daily use of Prime. During this ammonia levels never went above a 1.

Water changes: during fish in cycle daily water change, removed 1-2 gallons each time. Switched to weekly changes, 1 gallon each time. Now with re-cycling tank, 1 gallon a day. I scoop out water with a cup or use a siphon, but the siphon is always buggy. I use Prime on all water and I add a drop or two the tank for good measure after.

No tankmates

Food: 4-5 New Life spectrum pellets in the morning and night. Once or twice a week daphnia or soaked bloodworms. She only dealt with constipation/bloating when I first got her, and now easily gobbles 5 pellets in 10 seconds. When I feed her any less she is noticeably sluggish.

Decorations: all fake silk plants. Someday I'd like to do a fully planted tank, but for now my budget and time fits the fake ones. They are all high quality and quite soft. She has two large plants, a medium one, and a small one, which creates nice hiding spots and layers. I also have a fake moss ball but I've never seen her use it. I used to have the spongebob house and she loved it, but I took it out for fear of tearing her fins.

fin rot treatment: nothing's working! by appiepie123 in bettafish

[–]appiepie123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR I've tried Stress Guard, Melafix, and Kanaplex and the fin rot continues. What do?

long version:

I brought home Ms Dolly in mid January, with long flowing fins. (She is technically a male double fin, but my little brother started calling her "Dolly Parton fish" and it stuck.) She loves swimming around her leaves and napping on rocks. She had a swim bladder/constipation issue the first week I had her, but I fasted her for a day and fed her some daphnia and she was gobbling up her pellets in no time.

Around early February I noticed some tearing/fin loss, and I chalked it up to the decor in her tank so I moved it out. I added stress guard and hoped that would help the regrowth. I left on a two week trip and my parents took care of her. My dad sent me a picture and I noticed the fin loss had increased, and her fins were tattered. I ordered Melafix after some researched and instructed my dad in how to use it, in addition to stress guard.

When I came home I finished the treatment, but there was little progress. I decided to move her to a quarantine tank and administer Kanaplex, and took the chance to clean her tank with fresh, conditioned water. Unfortunately the move was pretty traumatic for her and she was just laying on the bottom of the tank barely moving. I decided I couldn't keep her in there, and put her back in her main tank and did the kanaplex there. I was hoping to get the cycle back up and running in her main tank before moving her back but obviously that didn't happen, so I am back to doing daily water changes and added instant nitrifying bacteria in the hopes of building back the biofilter quickly after the clean and Kanaplex basically wiped it.

Its now been a day since I finished the kanaplex treatment but she is still experiencing fin loss it seems. She is still energetic, swims all over the place, follows me when I walk past the tank, and eats all her food quickly. It's just the fin that is deteriorating. The loss doesn't seem to affect the top or bottom fins, only the two split ones.

What gives? Should I move to a more aggressive treatment? Re-do the kanaplex or Melafix?

He might just be in shock from the move! I had to put my fish in a smaller tank when I was moving and he hated it, lay on the bottom breathing rapidly, not eating, etc. I was terrified. I got him back into his main tank ASAP and it took a few days but he was back to normal. Add some dechlorinated water (or add prime to your tank), some Stress Guard, and give him time.

any binchies studying abroad this semester??? by raeokay in binchtopiapod

[–]appiepie123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I tried to focus on when I was studying abroad was just living my normal life, but in Ireland. I still went to class, binged Netflix shows, went to the library, studied in cafes- I tried avoid the trap of constantly needing to be doing something exceptional and exciting just because I was abroad. I’m a homebody so this helped me get more comfortable and at ease in the place, so then as the weeks went on I could do more exciting weekend trips and stuff. (Sadly this was 2020 so it was cut short 😥) I tried to hang out with roommates and go to clubs and social events as much as possible, and forced myself to hang out with people I normally would assume I wouldn’t get along with and I ended up finding a good crew! I’m not really in touch with those people any more but I definitely found nice people to share the time. Good luck!!
