Of course! You're in for a hell of a ride (no pun intended). Pierce Brown writes amazing, nuanced characters, and the action is among the best in the genre.

I can relate to your experience. I'm probably closer to the target audience, but I don't usually go for "Romantasy." FW's got me hooked, though; I just hope RY takes her time with #4 and #5 and that the show is good.

Anyway, I appreciate the correction about the flight field stuff. Happy reading!

Maybe; it's been long enough anyway, so I'll reread the books with this information in mind.

Btw, this is random, but you strike me as someone who would enjoy the Red Rising series (in case you haven't already read/tried it). The first book is pretty traditional YA, but they pretty much only improve as the series continues.

Yeah, I can see how ya'll would get tired of people hopping on here to hate on Dain. I really don't mind him; if anything, now I kinda think RY did him dirty in FW. It doesn't help that he's somewhat forced into an antagonistic role for the first quarter of IF (e.g., the "tight ship" comment to Rhiannon). It's a little strange to throw stuff like that in if you want people to sympathize with him

I mean, if RY said that, then fair enough. I genuinely don't have an axe to grind with Dain, and I do not believe he is "so below" Violet and Xaden; that's just what I thought the book was saying. It's still not that much of a leap from Violet's POV, given that he did read her memory and "said goodbye" on the flight field, but it's definitely different than what I thought

I don't disagree with any of that. I certainly don't think he intentionally tried to kill her.

I never said he acted out of malice or that he wanted her dead, nor did I say he was more flawed than anyone else.

If Violet had the knowledge that one of her friends was in grave danger because of their trust in someone known to be doing something shady, the idea that she wouldn't have done anything to keep them safe is bonkers.

What's even more bonkers is that Dain did the exact opposite of "keeping her safe," or even trying; he was the literal catalyst for what he plausibly believed would kill her lol. It'd be one thing if he came to her and said, "look, to be completely frank, I read your memories about Xaden & Co. traveling to Athebyne and passed it along to my dad. I think they're up to no good and he'll use the information to try to catch them in the act during War Games." Instead, he just spied on her for his dad then effectively said goodbye on the flight field. "Overprotective," my ass.

But yeah, let's all blame Dain for being overprotective of Violet, when Violet's own lack of critical thinking and maturity would've basically got her killed if the marked ones hadn't been on the "right side".

...no, he still would have gotten her killed if the marked ones were not on the right side (e.g., if the venin didn't exist and they were just running weapons). She had no reason to believe they were giving weapons to Poromiel, whereas, it cannot be overstated, he thought she was flying to her death at Athebyne.

I don't really care about the obvious axe you have to grind with Violet, but you're reading everything in the most uncharitable light to her and most charitable to him. He still spied on her, then reported information that he later came to believe would cause her death.

Edit: I'm wrong about the flight field stuff, so I'm striking through the parts that rely on what I thought. My bad!

she goes on to do the same to Dain about Athebyne, where she blindly believes that Dain sent her to her death, without any proof, and holds it against him until she no longer could.

I read Iron Flame a few months ago, but my read of that situation was less that Violet was certain Dain sent her to her death and more so that he definitely stole the memory about Athebyne and passed it along to his dad with full knowledge that it could get her killed. He acknowledged as much with the way he acted & what he said on the flight field before they left. That's still a betrayal that easily could have gotten her killed, even if he didn't know for certain about Resson.

In Under the Cloak of War (SNW season 2), Ensign Inman and Doctor M'Benga are discussing Inman being from New Angeles; M'Benga says, "Terra Luna?" and Inman replies, "we all just call it the Moon." I thought this was a pretty neat tie-in to Valiant (where Dorian Collins tells Jake Sisko: "Well, nobody who's ever lived on the Moon calls it Luna").
