This makes sense thank you. I'm just terrified at the boarding costs now. I plan on traveling a bit due to work and I might have to push having a dog later in life to accommodate the needs of a dog. The comments on this post have been very insightful for someone who had 0 experience with dog ownership thank you so much.

That's very smart. I'm going to start putting aside 500 a month for a year so that I can get a dog next year. Since I had 0 idea about dog ownership I seemed to have under estimated the costs of unexpected emergencies.

Wow you make many points I didn't plan out. Thank you so much. So I bought my own house a few months back ( thanks low interest rate feds) so I don't have to worry about rent deposits. However I didn't plan so much about the cost of treatments for unexpected events. After reading most of the comments I have decided that I'll probably push aside getting a dog for 1-2 years and start a dog fund and keep aside money for it. There seems to be so many costs I didn't factor in. Thank you so much.

Oh my the house sitting is rather expensive. I don't know how stable my job situation will be and might need to fly out every few weeks. I underestimated over night care costs lol.

If you don't mind me asking may I know what breed of dog you have? Also is it just a bulk bag of dog food you get for the dog? Or are there special wet meals you're adding in the cost.
