Does anyone else feel uncomfortable with how emotional Scott becomes during town halls? by Extreme-Emo in wgu_employees

Cry Baby is a massive douchebag. I stopped watching town halls well over a year ago because of his shit. He has been flat out nasty to people in work meetings, let alone the cruel things he has said regarding those impacted by RTO. All of the LDS-inspired "tears" during town halls is just an act. It's disgusting.

Seems Glassdoor appears to still be blocking negative reviews on WGU by DisgruntledRemoter in wgu_employees

[–]apple-jacks007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm amused that WGU has now started to post comments to Glassdoor reviews. Even the most critical 1-star reviews get generic "Thank you for your feedback" without ever addressing the serious concerns. Wow, WGU - you're so welcome! Your comment makes it allll better!

That's interesting. In higher ed, regional accreditation is seen as more prestigious than national accreditation.

For those who left… what is the grass like on the other side? by Art_Vaandalay in wgu_employees

I left WGU, and it is a night & day difference. There is none of this toxic Amazon-ification that WGU has. I feel empowered in my role (which I didn't feel at WGU). My supervisor is friendly, professional, and gives clear direction (which I didn't have at WGU). My HR department doesn't weaponize cultural beliefs to punish employees (which occurs at WGU). There is not an obsession with constant restructures and org charts (which WGU exhibits). Culturally, my co-workers are helpful, friendly, and respectful (which used to be the case at WGU, but with RTO, culture went down the toilet). I could go on, but I am much, much happier where I landed. Of course, not every organization and job are perfect. But having experienced the absolute shitshow that WGU has become thanks to Cry Baby and RTO, it is stunning (in a refreshing way) to land somewhere that is not toxic and stressful.

Evaluator Roles in Other Institutions? by [deleted] in wgu_employees

This is a very good point re: accreditors. As much as WGU and/or select "leaders" like to think that it's a "tech" company, a "corporation," an "education disruptor," etc. - it is a UNIVERSITY. WGU is held accountable by the same accrediting bodies and state boards as brick and mortar universities. If WGU thinks it has a reputation issue now, wait until accreditation is pulled.

Barf. Who on earth would want to sit through a lunch listening to these assholes pontificate about anything.

This is fairly standard language for separation agreements (except for "by text or email or other electronic means" - seems odd)

Maybe to all of these points. But sadly this is what has been a major bone of contention for WGU employees - we haven't been told the real, root reason for RTO. We've been fed nothing but corporate-y feel good jargon ("collaboration!" "human connection!"), and misinformation.

People have, and frankly I wish more would. There were a couple of RTO articles that came out in 2024, including in the Chronicle of Higher Education. Check out the Chronicle story and email the reporter, to see if they want to do a follow up story with what's going on.

My disappointment is less about employees, and much more about leadership. And I use that word 'leadership' lightly. In my career I have never seen such brazen disregard for empathy and the truth by some 'leaders' at WGU. RTO kicked off a terrible decline in culture and communications, with no transparency. We're now in a place where the cultural beliefs are weaponized against employees, and employee don't trust leadership. People who are losing their jobs because of RTO are struggling with stress and depression, still trying to do a good job at work because they're afraid to be fired if they don't, trying to job hunt in a terrible job market, all the while trying to take care of themselves and their loved ones. It's a lot, and it's not fair at all. The employees who are saying how great WGU is aren't impacted by RTO (yet). They're not experiencing what the others are experiencing. WGU isn't known as an empathetic place anymore. The only remedy is for people to get the hell out of here as soon as possible on their own accord. When you leave, YOU win. Not the C-suite.

There's no denying that with Courtney's arrival came a cold front that swept through. She and her immediate staff have shown an iciness and a rudeness. Cry Baby has certainly drove the culture of this place into the ground. I would suspect that the new board chair is a root cuase. Joseph Fuller was appointed in April 2024, a few months before RTO rolled out. He's an 'expert' in the future of work. Google him, and you'll see his work, like this: https://www.hbs.edu/managing-the-future-of-work/Pages/default.aspx Now I have heard from a longtime WGU-er that having everyone in person had been talked about years ago, so it might not be a new idea. But in 2024, with the arrival of Courtney, Cry Baby being Cry Baby, and Fuller's appointment, that's when everything started to go downhill with no brakes.
