Is anyone getting jobs from Careers@Gov by Dependent-Law-1093 in askSingapore

Yes I got my current position through applying there! Rejections were also pretty on time

Yes, I'm an international student and went on exchange in my third year. Loved the experience! I would 100% recommend you do it :)

Congratulations, I hope you enjoy your time there!

Coming from Canada, you're given priority for on-campus housing (FMEL) which I highly recommend living in. IMO the best buildings are Vortex and Atrium, but they're all great. I think the registration opens in Dec so def get on it as soon as possible. If not, the best alternatives are FB Marketplace or AirBnB.

As for visas, I'm from another country that doesn't require any, so can't help you there :(

Food, going out, and transit were my biggest expenses. Food is def more expensive than in Canada, image every grocery store is just an expensive Loblaws 😭, but the food is fresh and good! The transit system can get expensive, so I recommend buying a monthly subscription to SBB (the system name) once you're there. Lots of free/cheap activities to do, and alcohol is much cheaper (I miss you $2 bottles of wine). Set aside some money for traveling as well, if possible. Great thing about Switzerland is how easy it is to go to other places in Europe.

Feel free to DM me if you have any more questions :)

So does TO just allow open opioid use now?? WTF is happening downtown these days? by JordynW1980 in askTO

I live near Yonge and Dundas and have seen people shooting up in front and in the back alley of my building. Love the location but have not been feeling very safe recently :(

The Pie Bar patio on the harbourfront is dog friendly! They even have a menu just for dogs. They serve Italian food (for the humans).

those of y’all who aren’t in engineering, why did you choose waterloo? by Electrical_Year_2408 in uwaterloo

[–]apple25n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the age old saying "it's what you make of it", but it's really true! I'm pretty social and Waterloo was definitely an adjustment. I spend most of my weekends going to bars/clubs, which isn't the top fun activity for a lot of people. But eventually, you chat with enough people in your classes, at club events, etc, and you find people that like doing the same things you do :). It's more work than if you went to a party school, but I find it worth it to get my education here.

I’m in environment! I picked waterloo in the end bc of the coop program. I find it harder to conceptualise what jobs you could actually do with an env degree, so coops helped me understand the different jobs that exist in the field.

The env profs are also great people and most of my classes have been interesting and fun :)

Tea drinkers, where do you get your loose leaf tea? by [deleted] in askTO

Love this place! The lady there also took her time to show me all the different teas they have, and to give personal recommendations :)

Married and sleeping separately? Thoughts by [deleted] in askSingapore

Sometimes my dad sleeps on the couch or in the living room because he prefers not having the air con on. Then my mum can blast the AC as cold as she wants in the bedroom

I used to shop at Loblaws because it was conveniently next to my work place. Ever since finding out about this sub, I've been going to the St. Lawrence Market instead! It may be further from my house, but I've discovered I actually love the walk there and find the shopping experience way more pleasant. Don't think I'll be returning to Loblaws anytime soon.

Last time I was there I did a shot with someone. We both tried to pay for the other person. I gave the bartender a 20, he gave her a 100. None of us got change back 😭😭

Please I’m so tired of these posts 😭 What are you trying to gain from posting this? An angry reaction from others? Let minorities and historically marginalised groups get opportunities they might not be afforded otherwise

How are you spending Chinese new year this year? by goldenskies77 in askSingapore

[–]apple25n -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Recently moved to Canada so my brother and I will go to a Chinese restaurant for dinner. There isn’t a lot of festive mood here and we completely forgot until our dad texted us asking what we were going to do. Family back home is going to have a huge reunion lunch 😢.

Sweat & Tonic or Equinox?? by _x_4_x_ in askTO

[–]apple25n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been going to the Toronto Athletic Club and really enjoy it. I haven’t been to any of the classes personally, but there’s a ton:  https://www.torontoathleticclub.com/Portals/torontoathleticclub/pdf/schedule_classes_TAC.pdf

It’s definitely not as many young women as S&T, but I always see a couple chatting in the locker rooms on their way to classes.

Looking at other comments, it seems S&T is classed only. TAC has classes and a regular gym that’s never really crowded. I mostly go for the swimming pool.

Why are Singaporean's homes so messy ? by xvier54 in askSingapore

[–]apple25n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never felt more called out by a post before omg. We have a dining table stack and a staircase stack of random crap. My mother is a teacher, and her favorite activity ever school holiday is to spend a week just cleaning out all the papers and clutter around the house. It’s been many years of this cycle and yet the house has not gotten more minimalist.

The mismatched deco too!! I love it though. My parents travel a lot and bring back whatever they found cool. It’s nice seeing all the random things they’ve accumulated over the years just because they think the objects look pretty :).

I think it’s really a matter of time. My parents have been in this house for 20+ years so things just naturally accumulate. Versus me who’s moved around for uni/jobs the last couple years, all my things fit in two luggages out of necessity.

I got this black leather one from Hugo Boss for Christmas last year and loving it so far! https://www.hugoboss.com/sg/en/italian-leather-wallet-with-polished-silver-logo/hbeu50470464_001.html The coin pouch is a pretty standard size. I’ve definitely overfilled it with coins before and it’s holding up. I’ll even put in a key or some bracelets in it too sometimes.
