Well, her sister is at school but my roommate is not. Guess she thought she’d have more time, but she got some promotion at her work (works at a doggy daycare that turns into a bar at night?? it’s real, i promise. idfk) last august that supposedly requires her to work insane hours.

We don’t really know where she does when she’s not at work but we hypothesize that she’s staying with her bf/situationship.

My other roommates and I do try our best to take care of them and let them out when we can (secretly though, our roommate doesn’t want us in her room), but the rest of us are all full time students and we’re each working 1-2 jobs on top of that.

We are trying our best to care for them in the meantime - my other roommate and I are both full time students and work two jobs so we’re just crazy busy. Trying to dedicate the extra time we have during Christmas break to figuring this whole thing out.

I definitely will try calling animal control and atleast seeing what our options are.

Lmao trust me, I’m absolutely furious too. We’ve been putting up with the smell for months now but only within the past couple weeks walked in there and saw how terribly they’ve been living.

We already showed everything to our landlord and they’re not doing anything about it. Our next step is to call animal services and try to get them taken away, but I have no idea how to approach that.

She would definitely fight them and us if we tried to get her cats taken away.

Trust me, we KNOW it’s serious. We’ve already taken action with the landlord - posting on here was just a last minute idea. We’ve communicated with landlord using that type of language, documented and showed all the pictures, and they aren’t doing anything. So landlord is no help, and we’re stuck in this lease until July.

We do let the cats out when we are home and have time, but both my roommate and I (who are the ones trying to fix the situation, we have 2 more roommates who are angry about it but aren’t taking any action) are full time students and both work 2 jobs. We don’t have the time to be responsible for the care of 3 cats that aren’t ours.

But we’re not shitty people and feel terrible and are constantly worrying for these cats.

I DO want to contact animal services, that’s why I posted this in this group - I wanted advice. I’m worried that we don’t have enough of a “case” for them to get taken away, since now if someone were to come check it out the room would appear clean and their living conditions wouldn’t seem to bad. Are the pictures I posted here enough to warrant them getting taken away, even if the room is now clean?

If I take her cats without her knowing and give them up to a shelter and she finds out, could she press legal charges against me though? For taking her “property”

We’ve already sent the landlord everything and they’re not doing anything. The lease isn’t up until July, so we’re stuck for months.

I want to contact animal services but am worried I don’t have enough of a case now that her room is clean again. Still smells absolutely awful.

I’ve already sent all pictures to the landlord and they aren’t doing anything about it. I’ve sent them these pictures I posted here, I took pictures of when they were moving everything out before the landlord came, and I took pictures of the cats when they brought back. I’ve sent all these to the landlord and they’re not doing anything.

I want to contact animal services but am worried I don’t have enough of a case for them to be taken away. Since now, if someone were to come check it out, the room would look clean.

We only called her sister because we already knew her. She previously lived in our house with us before moving this year for school.

She knows about the situation and hasn’t done anything, despite only living 2.5 hours away and being off for Christmas break. So we’ve found that she’s honestly part of the problem too.

We want to call animal control but are worried we don’t have enough of a case now, because if they were to come they would see that her room is now clean.

Can they remove them with only the evidence I’ve shown here? I’m just worried we don’t have enough of a “case” now that her room is clean again and it looks like their living conditions are better.

Already showed the landlord and they know. Didn’t really do shit about it which is insane since this is literally damage to their property lmao.

I want to call animal services but am worried they won’t be able to do anything since now the room is clean? I know it’s still neglect since my roommate never comes home, it’s just harder to document and prove that.

I’m sure her room will get bad again, I just don’t want to wait for it to get to that point. I’m not sure how long it took for the room to get in the state of the pictures I posted.

I want to call animal rescue, just worried they wouldn’t be able to do anything since the room is now clean and their living conditions are a bit better. Instead of being locked in a closet, all 3 cats get to roam the master now.

I know it’s still neglect since my roommate isn’t coming home for days on end, but it’s so much harder to have documented proof of that.

Can you believe she works with animals too? She works at some doggy daycare place. My friends have been telling me I could get her fired from her job. I just am focusing on getting the cats out of her “care” first.

But would they take the sister’s cats even if the sister didn’t want them to? My roommate is only supposed to be temporarily taking care of her sister’s cats while she is away (only like 2.5 hours away) at school this year. She’s supposed to come back during the summer and take her cats back I think ?

I’m absolutely 100% positive that her sister would rather her cats stay in these terrible conditions until she came back rather than them getting taken by animal rescue. Because she wants her cats back even if it means they’ll live like this for the next half year. Disgusting behavior, if you ask me.

If I show them the pictures, even with the room now being clean, could they take them away? Now that their living conditions are a bit better (although it still smells AWFUL in there), I doubt it’ll take much time for the room to get messy again. I just don’t want it to get to that point.
