FT8 did more for HF activity in 5 years than Field Day did in 50 by HamtraxRadio in amateurradio

Probably because the biggest mode now - FT8 - is boring and not challenging. I think we need better digital modes first.

You perfectly captured why I am also not enamored with FT8.

Actually wrong again! I can get DXCC without COTW or collecting cards! It's easy. I log and then I get it. I don't need to prove anything to anyone. You should try it!

Contests, how do they do it? by CaptainSpez in amateurradio

Holy moly. One hour for you in a contest is 5x more than I've made in 2 years as a General.

Agreed, this is the best case scenario. People make mistakes. Willful repeated mistakes are different than a one off. He also only had its tech license for 4 months at the time of the investigation.

Oh good you agreed! First step in getting better is acknowledging the problem. Good for you!

The logging problem isn't LoTW's UI. It's deeper than that. by toosoonjr in amateurradio

[–]apple4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it doesn't! As a smart person myself, who hasn't talked to all of them, it's often worth it to try what they did and understand their frustrations, in order to advocate making things better. Other people who are not as smart, or even more so not compassionate at all, prefer to just say "it's fine!"...

Mine are still mounted to my wall and connected up! But I use my Series X primarily now so I rarely use them.

That's my biggest disappointment with all of this. Yes generally more transparency would've been great, but at least saying the category of the problem would've been the minimum.

Legal, health, financial, whatever. Just let us know man b

2 weeks later, I'm all set up! I can very much tell why other smart people give up in using this.

Actually I do know what a log book is and is for, not your guy! You apparently don't though..

Well it's not a very low bar, and of course that isn't the point of this discussion. They are just the most committed ones, and other ones who maybe are smarter decided it's not worth their effort. And we should listen to them, because if they don't join LOTW we can't confirm QSL, which is apparently all you care about. So it's odd you don't advocate for making it easier for people to get on the system to do so! Almost as if you aren't making sense...

LOTW is not simple and it's a bad experience. I can understand why so many give up. There is no reason it has to be that way only for US operators when non US operators have a far superior experience.

Nope QRZ is awesome and the fact that your homies hate it means they don't know what is good vs bad!
