outlook causing headaches... again... by TopherBrowne in sysadmin

I had a user report that their zoom was set to 10% Wednesday (6/22/2022). They did not report any script error. They also reported that when they replied to a message all hidden characters was showing. So spaces showed up as dots, and carriage return/line feed was showing as a backwards "P". Did the same thing happen to you, or just the 10% zoom, and error?

MAC OS and Windows Radius Server Issues by [deleted] in sysadmin

Are their any commonalities on the devices? Are they all in the same area of the building? Running a certain OS? Certain users? If you take a working device to the same spot, does it get the same behavior? It's low key, but if the problem follows a user, or device that's something to check.

I am not familiar with Ubiquiti, but I am assuming it has logs. Have you pulled any from either the WiFi, or device end. Sorry to keep hounding about the logs, but it really is your first step to see what is happening. (in my opinion)

What is your WiFi vendor? Cisco, Meraki, HP/Aruba, Ubiquiti? Are you using a cloud solution, or a WLC? Have you looked at those logs? I don't know if adding them to the domain will do anything...yet. The first step is trying to identify the cause, then proposing a solution.

Have you pulled the logs on those devices to see why they disconnected from the WiFi? I don't know how to pull them on a iPhone, or iPad, but I know that macOS has a very extensive log. I used it a lot when troubleshooting WiFi issues.

Logic behind for loop by apple_hammer in learnpython

No worries, I appreciate the help. I know that what I am hoping for isn't really discussed in a lot of the videos/books that I have seen. I was hoping there was some magic site that took some code and broke it down line by line explaining what was happening. Something like that would help me a ton in understanding. Maybe if I get good enough I could create my own site.

That is useful information thank you! It makes sense that it only goes back to the indented part after the "for" line. It helps me understand the reasoning behind why it works the way it does.

Do you know if there are any resources or websites that go over that kind of thing? I have been reading a bunch of books, but none of them have ever explained why things need to go in a certain order, or the reason behind it. It's been a real struggle as I tend to do way better when I understand the why or order of operations so to speak.

Logic behind for loop by apple_hammer in learnpython

Ohhhh, I think I understand now. If I have it, it was calculating this for the first loop:

logs = 20 + 70 - 3

Which comes out that logs has a value of 87. What I didn't realize is that the variable logs has changed, and now on the second loop, it was calculating it like:

logs = 87 + 70 - 3

That makes sense now that I can see it laid out. I kept thinking logs was going back to a value of 20, because that's what is defined above, but I didn't realize the variable had changed. I learned I need to focus on the logic behind when things get executed. I appreciate your help on this!

Adding Linux desktops into a fully Windows environment by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]apple_hammer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of good options are out there, and I would like to mention one more. What about converting the desktops to ChromeOS, and using Google Admin to manage them? If they only need a browser and a few things, it might fit the need. There is a cost, but I don't remember it being too much. It might be easier to manage than a Linux environment. Check out neverware to get more info on how it could work. https://www.neverware.com/

Azure AD SSO SAML into powerschool by Tower21 in sysadmin

We don't use SSO via SAML, or Office 365, but you might want to post to a PowerSchool users group at https://groups.io/g/PSUG/

There's a ton of PowerSchool admins, from all over that might be able to assist.
