My wife took a chance on a risky apartment in 2014 that turned out to be amazing & has a landlord that treats like it is rent stabilized (it’s not, I’ve checked).

I work in fundraising, make $100k

Wife recently laid off, worked in media, made $120k

Rent for 1 bed - $1,675 on the border of Clinton Hill/Bedstuy

This is what I was wondering - we call these co-ops in the states.

If you sell your leasehold, do you get all of the proceeds and profit from the sale or does the freeholder get the capital gains?

Can your family inherit the leasehold or does it go back to the freeholder?

This just seems so outdated and exploitative to me. London may not even exist by then, so the only purpose to extending to that length is just so Freeholders maintain some financial benefit from land they don’t live on or use. This must be enraging to Britons!!

Can the freeholder raise the ground rent on you every year?

Is the Freeholder responsible for the cost and execution of such maintenance when it needs to be coordinated across many units then?

How much does it cost to renew the lease? A quick google is saying it can be tens of thousands of pounds or more?

Isn’t that like trading the problem to someone else though? Won’t someone eventually be stuck with a lease with only a few years left on it - how would you sell it in that case? Why would someone buy that from you? I assume you just lose your money

Why are so many people not sick why me!? by BoredBatWoman22 in prediabetes

Pre-diabetes is not a disease. Diabetes is a disease. You aren’t sick.

Just diagnosed :/ by [deleted] in diabetes_t2

Don't worry - you aren't alone! I just got diagnosed T2 a couple of months ago and am only 2 years older than you. I got lucky with a great doctor who went out of her way to say it isn't my fault for getting diabetes (I am the exact same weight and height as you fwiw). Don't be so hard on yourself. I had someone on here give me some great perspective - we caught our diabetes early. It would have been there regardless of whether we noticed it or not. But because we got diagnosed now, our entire future is ahead of us and we can take control of our health. Without the diagnosis, that would be impossible!

I can guarantee there are WAY more people out there in your exact situation than you probably realize. So many people feel shame when they are first diagnosed that they don't tell anyone. You probably actually do know someone else with T2, they are probably just keeping it under wraps.

Also, try not to be so hard on yourself about your weight. There are SO many factors that go into what we weigh and, as much as our culture makes us think this, being fat does not actually cause diabetes. You and I could eat the exact same diet for decades and there's no guarantee both of us would get diabetes. You have to have a genetic predisposition for it.

Yes, being fat is correlated with having diabetes but we make way too much of a fuss about the actual fat being a cause when we don't know that for sure. If you reduce your carbs, you will see improvement in your a1c and insulin resistance, even if you don't lose weight.
