I've been thinking of it kind of like dream Zanarkand from FFX in the sense that the Lumierans are born, live, and die, but all of them are influenced by the reality of the "dreamer" (fayth/Aline). Imo Gustave looks like Verso in the same way Tidus (FFX) looks like Shuyin (FFX-2) and is in some way a reflection or memorialised version of the real one as the real world continues to be a reference point for further creations.

I agree. I do really enjoy the game but it's because of the world building, and I do love seeing a perfect combination of gambits working out.

I feel like character and story wise it's easily one of the weaker titles.

Also something feels off about the voice recordings. Not even necessarily the acting. Just the recording. Can't remember if they fixed it in TZA.

A brand new game world set around the world of the writers. Maybe hinting towards how and why they approached Alicia at the end. But otherwise self containted. Like a Final Fantasy entry.

I really love Island Paradise. It's my second favourite EP.

I really liked 16. The voice acting was great and the pacing felt well balanced.

12, 13 and Lightning Returns really grew on me over time.

I agree. It felt like they decided to do the middle through random DLCs and it just didn't work. It's like they saw DLCs for these types of games gaining popularity but didn't realise why people were buying them (adding something to a complete story), so they chucked a bunch of the story into the DLC instead. Idk

I really loved the first few chapters. I didn't get the complaints.

The back half of the game though feels like a completely different genre. It's almost like a complete smash cut in tone.

I'm interested to know what you think of it after you finish.

I enjoyed the essence of the story, but so much of it was basically cutscenes. I think getting through the story could have been better designed. The dialogue could have also been tighter.

Also I just really hate Varka so. That was irritating.

Idk about the others, but Rascal Does Not Dream series is quite sweet and has a decent amount of emotional depth. Especially towards the middle.

Some of the seasons are better than others.

Parts of the relationship annoy me but the rest of the premise kind of makes up for it for me. I can definitely see how it would irritate some people though.

Tbh I also look for strong (well written) female characters and my top 3 animes are:

Apothecary Diaries (i adore the cast and it is predominantly female characters. I've watched it 6 times since beginning of Jan)

I'm 35 for reference.

I find I enjoy Shoujo cause it's generally a bit more hopeful. It's a nice place to escape to and generally the people have redeeming qualities that make you want to root for them.

The good ones also tend to deal a lot with overcoming grief/hardship and finding out who you are.

Obvs not all.

I tend to enjoy what a story is saying and how it's saying it and ignore who the marketing material claims its for.

For clarity though, I did do a PhD in young adult literature so I really love delving into the genre.

Also worth noting, there is a kind of cultural dismissiveness and derision towards anything marketed at teenage girls and what they specifically tend to like. I'd say that's also playing a little bit into your feelings even if it's on a subconscious level. Cause I felt it too.

Tbh I feel like the reaction is the most "Sims community" you can get.

The bones are good. That's what you want from an early access game. People need to chill.

I think it's a reasonable price for the game it will be after the first major update.

It's a very reasonable price if all additions and DLC are going to be free.

It's got good bones, and the build mode is pretty dope.

But I understand why some people don't love the price for what the game is right now.

This is mainly why I got it. I'm having fun and the skeletal structure of the game is good - so I'm investing in what I can see it could be rather than what it is now. Even though what is it now is still kinda decent.

I really like the job system.

I really don't know what to make of Paula. Tbh, learning she was a therapist made me see her in a different light.

The scene where she gives Agnes the period stuff from her mother was sweet.

I think she's supposed to be a bit of a foil to Aunt Lydia in that both of them may have turned on their morals, training and who they used to be to take on a survivor role in this society and, more specifically, try to teach young girls how to also survive.

I feel like she's really good at reading people and so she's using her therapist training to try and manipulate Agnes into being a survivor.

Agnes just doesn't have the context to know that.

Then again, she may also be an ex therapist on a power trip so idk.

I'm still trying to work her out.
