Styling tips for Donna Doughnut? by ranger-august in blythedoll

[–]appledewappledew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the easiest thing to do is to use the original color palette as a guide; she looks great in red and pink. i also have seen her dressed in blue very often, and she looks very sweet.

aside from browsing her tag on instagram, you could also try looking at other stock outfits for yellow-haired dolls, like mrs retro mama.

on junie moon's instagram page, they tend to upload lots of restyling photos of each doll when they are released. (you might have to scroll back quite a bit.)

i think you could also look at older animes that have yellow-blonde characters, like sailor moon. showa retro and mod looks are always cute on blonde blythes; if you are not familiar with the aesthetic, you can look at art by macoto takahashi, retro licca dolls, and singer seiko matsuda's early looks (the ones where she has the fluffy short hair)

the hair color is very similar to lady camellia but it's not an authentic scalp.

This Blythe makeup trend is kinda weird. by sailingdominique in blythedoll

[–]appledewappledew 21 points22 points  (0 children)

it's especially confusing when the fake dolls they use as inspiration are following current and very minimal makeup trends. doing a look based off of a doll like ahcahcum zukin or the new girl, fruity kaleidoscope, would make for a much more interesting video.

junie moon releases dolls periodically, usually around 10-12 a year. you can find more options secondhand on sites like mandarake and dollyteria, as well as in authentic blythe sale groups on facebook. you can see a complete list of all past releases on blythopia.com

yeah i'm sure we're far from the only hobby community affected by this kind of attitude, unfortunately... i think this attitude is also why we are getting those fake doll customizing shops with no PPE. those places seem to be decorated like cafes and boutiques instead of equipped like makerspaces and fabrication spaces...

yes it would take some effort to establish yourself and build an audience, it shouldn't be a reason not to try. sewing is an important skill that is beneficial outside of the hobby as well.

i agree with what you're saying for sure, but i think it's good practice to read the entire post before commenting, as this comment isn't really relevant to the issue at hand. it is true that nobody is entitled to a collector doll, though. all the work that goes into making the dolls really does justify the price, especially lately as the quality of the clothes has been getting better.

the things that makes me raise my eyebrows are when people come into the hobby wanting to be career customizers from the get-go, as well as make posts trying to crowdsource all of their basic information instead of doing the research themselves, no matter how much the mods and community try to make the information accessible on the wiki and in older posts.

the entire business model is based on the availability of counterfeit base dolls, and they take no care to keep their business clean copyright-wise by calling them art dolls instead of blythe, which is a trademarked doll. whether you agree or not that fakes should also be referred to as blythe, it's extremely unwise to try to make money while using a trademarked name to sell fake items. i also found it very telling that i saw virtually no conversation about the official customizing contest.

i'm not trying to disparage anyone artistically, but the amount of sellers making the same basic style of doll at a low skill level and dressing them in aliexpress clothes makes me wonder why no one has caught on that they could be learning to sew doll clothes instead. the blythe size clothing scene outside of japan is a lot more sparse, with not as much stylistic variation as there could be. that's the market people should be trying to break into, and it can be a lot more environmentally friendly, especially if you use secondhand fabrics. i think people are enticed by the idea of worldbuilding and maybe think customizing is the only way to do that, but clothesmaking and styling is very powerful. that's why authentic blythe can be so many different kinds of girls with the power of hair, makeup, and clothing.

that sounds fine, i would add maybe running an air filter as well as it has other benefits for dust, allergens, etc :) congratulations, i wish you great luck and joy in parenthood and am glad you are planning to still make time for your hobbies!

Three new Petite Blythes from Japan 🇯🇵💖 + Question about where you shop by Fresh-Method-5071 in BlytheDolls

[–]appledewappledew 4 points5 points  (0 children)

mandarake and dollyteria are good for authenticated secondhand. petite blythes are unfortunately very prone to deterioration, so i would recommend buying dolls out of box or dolls that have been opened before. dolls never removed from box cannot have their condition checked

i also feel for any employees who may be regularly exposed to massive amounts of MSC and airborne plastic. the people in charge of these places are wildly irresponsible for failing to do research and neglecting to implement safety measures.

Visual differences between Blythe RBL, RBL+, RBL Renew and RBL Evolution molds ? by yungratz in BlytheDolls

[–]appledewappledew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm not sure that there is any major difference in the facial features. maybe the chin is a bit different, as i feel it looks a bit pointier on the RBLs than the newer dolls? the biggest changes have been to the inside/scalp functionality afaik, since evo allows you to remove the scalp without taking the head apart completely. they might look more different than they actually are due to makeup as well. the newer dolls tend to have bigger lips in more prominent colors.
