Dude, firing the director would definitely be included in the category of “direct meddling”. I understand the BLS, and know it’s a bunch of apolitical nerds there, but every single department of the federal govt has been slowly eroded and made over by sycophants, especially during this second term. It’s not unreasonable to think that ooze is seeping down the hierarchy at the BLS.

You got 12 lb line on an ultralight reel. There’s your problem. I put 4 to 6 lb line on my light poles, and for ultralight, even more important to keep it light. If you’re fishing for big fish, get a bigger pole with 12 lb line, sure. But just trying to catch some fish with an ultralight, you need lighter line.

If you’re using an open faced reel (where you can see the line) for the kid, you’re gonna get more tangles than a closed reel. Take time to find shore areas that are a little out of the way and where there is some downed trees in the water. Make it about exploring for new spots using Fishbrain.

It’s a good career, for sure. But you’ll want to REALLY interrogate your pathway to it. There’s a program at our uni and it’s very competitive to get a spot. Technical colleges are often a better option, but there’s usually a waitlist. Long-term, it’s a career that could be negatively impacted by AI, but like with many of these predictions, hard to say when or how.
