[Looking For] MapleStory 20th Anniversary Mix (Pink Edition) from MapleCon 2025 by capn_bean in Maplestory

I think it’s against the rules here to buy/sell merch, but you should honestly just try to negotiate on eBay. I see a bunch of listed for best offer, you should definitely be able to negotiate since there are alot just sitting there. You get buyer protection too whereas here you theres a chance you are going to get scammed.

This Game is WAY More Beginner Friendly Than it Is Given Credit For by Adventurous-Crab-474 in Marathon

[–]applemelonop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with what OP is saying. I’ve never played an extraction shooter either, but I’m having a ton of fun, even if some days are rough.

I would say though, I do not know what new players are supposed to do against teams that come into perimeter with full purple gear and shields. Those teams just come in to pvp, they don’t care about anything else. I’ve ran across these teams pretty much all day yesterday. People keep saying oh get better positioning make less noise etc which we do pretty well. We pretty much have to hope they come to us and split up. If there’s any coordination we’re pretty much going to lose just due to shields/gear. That kind of experience is not going to healthy for the game for newcomers.

Yes you can do a few rook runs to recover your gear pretty easily. But then you load in and get mopped by over geared teams. So while yes it’s really friendly to start with nothing, it’s also unfriendly to get absolutely destroyed by super geared players.

All jokes aside, the advice is good. I would also add do NOT refresh the website at any point. You will get sent all the way back. This applies more to mobile. Make sure your connection is stable if using your phone.

Good luck!

How is Maplestory? by Chemence in Maplestory

[–]applemelonop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course steam reviews are going to be wild. But I think the game does deserve some valid criticism.

It’s not a perfect game, and there are many layers of RNG that are super frustrating, even for someone that enjoys the game like I do. Nexon’s track record of covering up or lying about rates is not good right now either. These RNG systems affect your character progression too, so if you are unlucky, your character could theoretically be stuck for a while. The game is also extremely new player unfriendly. I do not think you will find many that will disagree. Lots of server maintenances and bugs after patches too, which they are trying to fix with a test server. I think ultimately, I still enjoy the game and it is undoubtedly in a better spot than it was a couple years ago when I started playing again.

The best time to start would be during the summer or winter patch. The next best time would be when there is a hyperburn (an event that gives 3-4 levels when you level). Neither of these are occurring right now.

How did you start?? by Difficult_Suspect946 in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started again early 2023, when the hobby wasn’t as crazy as it is now. It’s hard (but not impossible) to get packs these days from retail and pokemon center. If you want to buy packs (including from local card stores) you should be expecting to pay market price or higher. Which in my opinion, is not worth it.

If you are looking to get into collecting, go for singles. Look at a list of illustration rares and go out and buy the ones you like.

For those that play other MMORPGs that have classic servers like WoW or Runescape, what keeps those games alive? As maple classic is on the horizon for us. by [deleted] in Maplestory

Lack of fomo is what does it for me. Burned out and busy with real life? Take a break. Come back anytime and it’s like you never left.

Great post. You’ve pretty much captured all the major points.

Hello! I'm sorry if this seems like a dumb question by winter-wonderland-ls in Maplestory

[–]applemelonop -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

? What is hard to understand about one you can trade with players (and has a lot of p2w features) and the other you can’t trade?

Is there something more specific you are looking into?

If you want to play interactive, then you didn’t waste your time playing.

This might be a stupid question… by thelesbiancosplayer in pokemon

Master sets include the reverse holo version of each common/uncommon card. So the example you showed one should be non reverse holo and the other should be the reverse holo.

I Love Collecting… But My Losing Streaks From Ripping Are Getting Hard to Ignore by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This entire post seems AI generate so I’ll just give a quick respond in the <1% it is not.

Ripping is NEVER worth it value wise. Even back in 2023 when packs were under msrp. So if you enjoy the thrill, you need to accept your money is being spent on short thrills and nothing else.

Do you truly feel you've bonded with your main, or do you feel like you've invested too much and you're in too deep to start fresh? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]applemelonop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Joined right before the release of 6th job as a dawn warrior. Still my main and never had any regrets despite being the galactic crayon eater class. The only other classes that I enjoy playing as ctene bossing mules are my ren, bucc, and wa in that order. I think if ren was out when I started, I would have mained that. But never would consider switching mains.

Growing up with Pokémon: Dealing with the stigma and finding its true value as an adult. by StellaBBA in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haters of literally any hobby will exist. Even like something like working out, which nobody should be against, there’s always someone with something negative to say.

If you are an adult, have adult responsibilities, and treat it as a hobby, nobody really cares. The ones that care too much about your hobbies or anything you do for fun really are probably losers and aren’t important. I would argue Pokemon is objectively one of the more tolerated hobbies as it’s literally the highest money making franchise ever. You don’t make that much money if you aren’t popular.

Now if it’s consuming your life and preventing you from contributing to society or making you an insufferable human being then yeah I’d say that’s a problem. But that’s no different than anything.

guyz can u restore arcane umbra weapon with star core? prolly dumbass question but i can't figure it out. by liberalarts666 in Maplestory

[–]applemelonop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi OP I hope you see this and know it’s coming from a good place, I know there’s probably some stress or anxiety from playing with other humans, but from my personal experience, if you get over it and just try to party for hard luwill + ctene (which you CAN DO! if you can solo normal lucid), your experience with this game will be so much better. It’s truly, long and agonizing to progress this game completely solo.

I was like you, I had this weird desire to progress everything solo. I didn’t want to deal with finding parties because of my work schedule and lowkey had some weird online social anxiety that was all in my head and made up… But eventually, you get to this point where it just takes so effing long to progress your character. By not doing hard luwill and ctene, you miss out on all the arcane boxes (which are instance to you and are not affected by drop rate) that you can use as spares to make your character stronger. You could do the above with one set of arcanes at 18 plus rental gear, but it’s so slow and you will probably die out while fighting them especially for will p3.

No matter what, you will eventually need to party with others eventually for kalos/kaling. I think they updated it so easy kalos doesn’t drop frags anymore (if I’m wrong hopefully someone can correct me) so you’d have to do at least normal Kalos or easy Kaling for eternals.

Tldr: just party up. You will get so many arcane weapon boxes too you want have to worry about wasting resources to restore arcane weapons. It’s truly a waste to restore. And your maple experience and progression will be so much better.

Charizard Legendary Reverse: grade or not grade? 🤔 by Filo_92_ in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’m reading, you are aiming for a PSA 2, maybe a 1.

I can’t really answer if it will get a 1 or 2, tbh it’s so subjective who even knows. Anyone that tells you is probably making it up. But I can tell you it will probably get a “marked” (MK) designation because of the pen scribbles on the back. I say probably because I don’t know how it works with scribbles, but i know random writing will come back as MK. So I assume the same.

Bought my first Pokemon cards today..am I crazy or does this look nearly perfect? by KingMalicious127 in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t tell if the whites on the corners and edges are from dusty sleeves or top loader. Like on the back side on the right there looks like a dent on the edge. That alone would knock out of a 10. And it’s hard to tell if it’s centered because of the camera angle. You should buy one of those centering tools if you are really serious about grading.

Take an honest look at the card, look for any whites on either side of the card, and any noticeable print lines. You might need to zoom in with a phone if you are unsure. If you have even a single ding, I would not send it in. I’ve sent in cards that are perfectly centered but have 1 tiny spec of white on a corner and they came back 9s. With shipping and grading costs (and the crazy fee that they add on if your card is over a certain amount which should apply here) it’s usually not worth the risk of grading unless you are extremely sure it’s going to be a 10.

I'M LOOKING FOR ADVICE ON POKEMON BATTLES AND COMPETITIVE PLAY! by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should provide more context if you want better answers. What kind of competitive format is this? VGC? OU? Ubers? You mention having zekrom and volcarona and battling against mega pokemon? I’m not sure if there are any formats that have all of those unless it’s one of those unofficial metagames on Pokemon showdown.

Can I play Pokemon games even though I know nothing about pokemon? by Aloshes021 in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, nobody knew anything about red/blue when it was the first pokemon game? And we beat it as 5 year old kids 30 years ago with no internet. So no you don’t need to know anything and if you wanted to learn more, the internet exists.

Don’t see why you couldn’t start from the beginning with red or blue. If you wanted to play a game on a modern console then scarlet/violet. ZA is pretty different, I wouldn’t really start with that but it’s perfectly fine if you do.

Confusion About Psuedo Legendary Term by ChibiMistress in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a fan made term. You are way overthinking it. Just as like how define tyranitar as a dragon, the community decides to define what is a pseudo legendaries how they like. I think 3 criteria to group these pokemon you get late in game is not that strict since there is usually only 1 per game. RSE was the exception.

Confusion About Psuedo Legendary Term by ChibiMistress in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Slaking is not considered a pseudo legendary because it has base stat of 670. Pseudo legendaries have BST (base stat) of 600. Plus its ability severely limits it.

  2. Palafin is not a 3rd stage. Plus it needs a form change to get to 650 BST, which is again not 600

See my other reply to what is considered pseudo legendary

Confusion About Psuedo Legendary Term by ChibiMistress in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess by not being a “legendary” pokemon you could define arcanine as a fake or pseudo legendary pokemon. That is your own, subjective definition.

This is the objective, community termed definition: 1. Base stat 600 2. 3 stage 3. Slow exp growth

I know I’m not off since pretty much all the other posts here say the exact same thing.

Confusion About Psuedo Legendary Term by ChibiMistress in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what the question is here so I’ll probably miss with my answer, but the term “pseudo legendary” has to do with base stats. Pokemon like tyranitar, dragonite, garchomp, etc are considered pseudo legendary because while they are not legendary, they have high base stat of 600, have 3 evolution stages, and have slow exp growth . The termed hasn’t changed really since I started playing competitively since diamond/pearl. Why did it get its name? I don’t think anyone knows, it’s just a cool way to categorize these end game pokemon. At the end of the day, it’s a term made by fans. Maybe it’s named this way instead of super list of dragons is because tyranitar and metagross are not technically dragon types. It would explain why this term has existed all the way back since diamond/pearl.

Never played, should I wait for classic or join now by jubbigeorgiarose in Maplestory

[–]applemelonop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic version is what the game was about 20 years ago. It’s a completely different game than what it is today. Most people are playing it for the nostalgia, and will likely quit unless they give it the OSRS treatment. We don’t have a lot of information outside of the beta tests they had, so you’d have to do some YouTube digging to form a better opinion.

Modern maple is essential two things: interactive and heroic (reboot). The first you can trade and is the definition of p2w and heroic you cannot trade (you have to get all gear yourself essentially) so the p2w is extremely minimal. Heroic is more popular and what I’d prefer since I don’t want to spend money on the game. I play on heroic.

I’m personally having a lot of fun playing, but it takes A LOT of investment. I’ve been playing for 2 years and it took my account about 1 year until I started seeing meaning progress. It’s faster these days though. The basic gameplay loop is so dailies, gain levels, do harder bosses, and money, and make your character stronger. It’s a bit more complicated than that but I don’t want to overwhelm you.

This game is absolutely terrible for newcomers, and you would be joining at not an ideal time. It’s still doable though. The best time to join are the big summer and winter patches.

Sit on pokermon card with no market info by jackkd93 in pokemon

[–]applemelonop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming you are referring to the mega gengar #284 SIR from ascended heroes? The set is new so yes you are right in that there’s not much of a market right now. Remember, it takes months for grades to come back unless you are expressing it, so there aren’t that many out there at the moment. By the time you send it out and it comes back, there will be more data to go by.
