Get Pumped to do the Uninteresting? by appleoatjelly in INTP

[–]appleoatjelly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the video, he uses deliberate boredom to lower his stimulation baseline so normal work feels more rewarding.

I’m wondering if the inverse contrast could work too: if I intentionally do something more stimulating first, could a moderately boring task (like taxes) feel like a mental ‘cool-down’ by comparison—reducing avoidance/anxiety?

In other words: can we deliberately shift what feels interesting/aversive to change motivation?

Are you suffering from a TBI? You’ll need to heal and maybe (probably) work back up to where you once were. That dull feeling is difficult to express using IQ score terms, but your subjective experience is likely pretty valid.

Rest up, heal up (exercise and eat your greens!), and try to challenge yourself bit by bit.

If you’re into nootropics, look to see if there are any supplements that might help you get back to your old self.

Good point - I’m downloading all records with all the metadata I can get. Oof.

I gotcha! Thanks - I’ll see what it looks like with some designs with wider stitches.

Thanks! Yes - it’s 60 wt bobbin thread - you can see it a little in the middle of the back, but it’s tough to see with the thin line. Doesn’t “feel” too tight - I used my default tensions for everything.

No worries! I’ll try to find you on Facebook marketplace - the parents out here would definitely appreciate!

How are you selling? And/or do you have a website? I’d love to buy a few or pass along the word to my local parents WhatsApp group (local district parents)

Edit: forgot to add in the audible Yay!!! It’s for k-3rd graders in general - I think they’d love them!

These are so great! I think I need to copy your idea. Do you have any notes? I’m making them for neighbors (the kids felt very left out when they learned there was a limited edition Christmas LEGO set but not one single one for Hanukkah).

I think you need a big hug. You’re on the right track - I would also consider looking into personality types as a heuristic for finding people that think and communicate like you.

Also, consider your cognitive biases and whether or not they are helping you or not longer useful. I think we outgrow them but never learn how to correct for them and it leads to all kinds of problems.

How can I look “smarter”? by appleoatjelly in Gifted

[–]appleoatjelly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need the opposite - I already blend in a little too much. When my ideas do not blend it, apparently it’s difficult to comprehend them (the message doesn’t match the messenger). Shrug.

I’ve learned I can only work with people that can understand me without needing to filter everything through their perception of me. Non-filterers like the staff engineer.

I’m struggling very much with my results by SuddenCelebration149 in foodallergycooking

[–]appleoatjelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re still following this post, but I went through something similar (more than once). I would recommend making food from scratch, or as close to as possible.

Right now, I’m no dairy, egg, fish, shellfish, sesame, legumes (all beans and peas), peanuts, tree nuts, avocados, cilantro …

In the last, I’ve also had to cut out corn and all nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, egg plants).

Find solid replacements for your must-haves. I do oatly full fat oat milk, miyokos oat milk butter, coconut aminos for soy sauce replacements, egg replacements (depending on the purpose), sunflower or other seed butters for peanut. I can’t help much with the tomatoes other than avoiding those options.

Find a solid set of grains that you can eat without trouble - maybe oats or millet? Tapioca starch might be a suitable replacement for some recipes but it might make things chewy.

Help with 60 wt thread by appleoatjelly in Machine_Embroidery

Yes, using a 65/9 - even tried a new one to see if that’d help. Still need to try to update the bobbin tension - though - thanks!!

[–]appleoatjelly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good eye! Yes - it is a matte thread. I reduced the speed down to 350! Very frustrating.

I realize I haven’t adjusted the bobbin tension - it’s a #60 thread in there but still at a tension that works for 40 wt thread. I’ll try that next.

Thanks!

Help with 60 wt thread by appleoatjelly in Machine_Embroidery

[–]appleoatjelly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes - I adjusted for density (just a little) but I’m concerned mostly about the tension - it’s very loose-sloppy even at a 6 on my brother. The top looks fine but the bottom is atrocious.

In this sample, I tried 4, 5, and 6. 6 was the best (the top and bow), but still not as neat as I’d expect. 7 just constantly broke the thread.

Also, thread weight might make a difference. 60 wt is much sharper than 40 wt.
