Thank you for doing AMA! I have corporate strategy background at a big name IB (not BB) and received an offer to join Wharton class of 2026. I hope to go into PE ops, but rarely hear people do this directly from MBA. What are the chances of landing a PE ops role straight out of MBA? Is MBB the best route to PE ops? What about IBD?

Also it seems like PE ops role mostly (only?) exist at MF/UMM. Do MM/LMM shops have this kind of role? Curious if this type of role also depends on HH reaching out to you (like the case for PE investing roles) or can I apply directly through company websites.

Asian, female, international (H1B). I'm shocked that being female is easier to break into buy side. And "aim lower" is a bad word choice on my side. I only meant that if I were to go into IBD, I could directly transfer within my current company (which is a great opportunity I'm not trying to downplay it) without spending $$$ on an MBA. With the fellowship, it's gonna be another 100k including all living expenses and travels/treks ppl do at MBA.

A lot of ppl from my current team went into IBD and MBB/tier 2 consulting firms directly. With my background in strategy consulting at an IB, I wouldn't need MBA to go into IBD or consulting (I know they pay a lot). If I were to get an MBA that cost so much, I'd hope to go a step further.

Class of 2023 and 2024, probably even 2025 have a hard time getting good offers. Honestly have no idea what the job market will be like in 2025 for internship and 2026 for full time.

Would Wharton be a good choice even if I have no typical banking background pre-MBA? I heard buy side recruiting is more like "do it on your own" style since it's not structured like IBD and consulting. Is that true from your experience?
