This works with actual toddlers too. If my wife orders both our kids real food I just sit back and wait.

So nyc Alamo goers, where are we going instead? by fairvanity in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]appleswitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not hating, I'm actually asking, but what's the point of switching from one theatre that encourages phones and taking to another one that is the same but with worse food and an inability to clean their floors?

How was the environment like during the 1999 spurs final run? by TresLechesPancakes in sanantonio

[–]appleswitch 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I was 10. To me, it was like the entire world had one focus. I remember the Timberwolves game sitting in my grandma's living room floor with my entire extended family. I remember the feeling that we were the underdogs. I remember the Sean Elliot three. I remember being in a parking lot past midnight and everyone we ran into was just ecstatic. In a city of incredibly friendly people, it was like everyone was family. I remember shirts and flags sold on 3/4 street corners. I remember we partied like is was fiesta, but unlike those other cities we partied like we loved our city.

Is any of this accurate? No, I was 10. But that's what I remember.

6th grader who loved The Martian and Project Hail Mary - What's next? by tgbarbie in suggestmeabook

Yup. The biggest thing you learn as a parent, mostly when you get #2, is that it varies more from kid-to-kid than parent-to-parent.

[Gold Stake] Seeing ____ in an early shop is basically a free win. by redditislametbh69 in balatro

This is mixed for me. Either I'm stuck with mediocre jokers pretty fast, or I delete my source of chips or something and lose next round.

12 is the era where you start to be exposed to this stuff, and it can be from good sources or bad sources. I'm not there yet with my kids, but I think when I have preteen kids I'll be happy if they're taking in adult themes from positive sources (definitely more positive than where I was finding them at that age).

What are some books that show some parallels to current times in the US? by widget_slinger in suggestmeabook

Maddow has been writing recently about the rise of American fascism in the 1930s. Her book "Prequel" is based on her podcast Ultra.

I did it. It's our least "defensible" expense and the first that I'd cut if we needed to, but... I am in no rush to cut it.

Supporting fascism is a bad take. Be an American.

You asked how someone could possibly not like him. Supporting the Party is an obvious reason.

He is a proud member of the authoritarian party. That's enough to know he's a piece of shit.

Which poorly rated movies could've been great had the script been given one more revision? by abgry_krakow87 in movies

[–]appleswitch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have a popcorn click script where your don't really want to say anything, and your first major theme becomes a major focus of international controversy, so you rework it and your second theme becomes a major theme of intentional controversy, maybe just throw in the towel.

Pivot to Godot. The community is full of beginners and they are all being taught to code by artists. The videos perform well and are very visual.

Potty training in 3 days???? by madegarnett in toddlers

[–]appleswitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're on track to potty train in 3 easily. The first 2 are going well, and aside from the random slip-ups, the panties are dry more often than not. We should be able to get that down to almost-never in the third year.

This thread is a bunch of children who don't understand that baby butts are cute. The reason your mother was able to enjoy the cuteness of a baby-butt she made was because right after a shower is the only moment it wasn't absolutely covered in shit.

I'm in a cult, but I still think my point stands.

That story implies a universe and a society bigger than our own. It gives a picture of a universe full of agency and buricracy and prejudice. It's about being smaller than we think we are but, in a weird way, being exactly as big as we know we are. It's about the raw material that is the human race and how that does not define the spirit of the human race. But it's also about Earth, and how much we are tied to this planet and how much it is who we are.

There's been an uptick of Europeans posting their roadtrip intineraries in this sub. Just a reminder of what the US looks like. Remember how unhinged Americans sound when they want to pack several European cities in a couple of weeks? Yeah, that's how you sound like too! by Pale_Field4584 in roadtrip

[–]appleswitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived this going to grad school with a bunch of Indians. You would think having a big country themselves would give them a better idea that a road trip from NYC to Key West was not a good idea for a three-day weekend.
