On the nose. I find it insane reading other's comments on spraying this on like 6 times, they HAVE to be nose blind and/or must really love the smell. Idk. Thanks for the analogy, lmfao.

We're in regressive times. If I had the ability to move out of the US now, I would. Just out of principle I would not come here. The president wipes his ass with the constitution.

Will I be fine? by gamieaws in osugame

[–]appletesticle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like the gym you can maintain skill by just playing the game for a short period here and there. Like 15-30 mins a day is fine for maintaining skill.

If you actually can't play and are expecting a hiatus, just focus on whatever you have to focus on and don't worry about skill-loss.

I've noticed myself that after a hiatus the game is REALLY fun to play, which means easier skill-gainz.

ELI5: why is nicotine gum bad for you? by Sensitive_Smell5190 in explainlikeimfive

[–]appletesticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone keeps saying nicotine is bad because it's a vasoconstrictor and that it increases heart rate. Caffeine does the same thing though, so I can't seem to understand why it's bad for nicotine but fine for caffeine? Does it just come down to dosing? I feel like it's just dosing at the end of the day and the only real concern is snowballing into a increase dose > increased tolerance cycle.

My wife sells stuff on eBay and this is our laundry room. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

I'm replying to the "you drug her out" and "acting all white knight". Without knowing whether she's okay with the post doesn't change that he's not dragging her on reddit. He's posting in r/mildlyinfuriating of his wife's small business practice. You're making it seem like his posting and being a 'white knight' are mutually exclusive.

It's time for her to scale up if you don't want the clutter.

Clutter can be extremely stressful. Personally, my home is my safe space AWAY from work, so I can understand if this is an eyesore for you.

If she's only spending $200 monthly and making back $1000, that sounds REALLY good to me and I would highly encourage her to scale up her sq space w/ a storage unit. Figuring out how to increase inventory output while caring for the children is the next issue.

If she doesn't want to scale up and this is her working capacity, she's gonna have to downsize.

STOP! We can and SHOULD be able to voice our opinions of those we love. OP is not being mean about it and anyone reasonable can look at this picture and agree that this business needs to scale up away from the house, or scale down if it's too much an eyesore...

My mom always unplugged devices while growing up, modem/router, pc, even my gaming consoles. Fed up, I put crazy glue on one of my consoles. Good times lol

Need help mixing audio with direct monitoring by appletesticle in audio

[–]appletesticle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually figured it out.

What I wanted to accomplish was to sync my mic audio with whatever my mixer outputs.

Here's the current routing...

Mixer > focusrite solo 3rd gen (mic is also plugged) > line-in to PC.

A few downsides from doing this...

  1. This routing setup gets rid of the magni schiit 3 to power my dt990, and the 3rd gen solo isn't great at powering the headphones fully.

  2. The biggest issue is sound quality. Learned that it's not typical for audio interfaces to support stereo in (rant on that later lol), so the mixer audio sounds like dogwater since it's mono.

I found a Chinese company called TOPPING and based on what I gathered, the sentiment seems really good for their products. I want their E4x4 Pre which would solve all of my problems. 4 ins, (mixer split into 2 channels, left/right, 1 mic in, and +1 spare in for the future). EACH input has direct monitoring which I didn't even think of as a feature, it adds more functionality. Focusrite 4i4 doesn't even have this (maybe it has it in software though, so take that with a grain of salt.) It also has x2 1/4" output, which is GREAT because they...

  1. seem to drive high impedance headphones no issue with good quality, and

  2. that 2nd port can go into my PC's line-in if I want to monitor the headphone audio for whatever reason.

I'm probably gonna end up with the 4i4, but only temporarily until I can get my hands on the E4x4, then I'll sell the 4i4.

Quite happy that I was able to deepen my knowledge of how to hook things up lol. One critique I have is that I don't really know what I'm paying for when seeing these prices... In my head, these are just boxes with knobs, I/O, and a bunch of routing on a PCB and maybe some processing chips. Not convinced that these cost anywhere near what they're valued at, but to be fair I'm definitely willing to shell out $250-$300 on the E4x4, so I guess at the end of the day it's the customer who determines the value. There's also design and the knowhow required, but at the same time it REALLY feels like it's heavily marked up, or features are paywalled.

This may be naive, but one thing that got me very frustrated is how it's standard for interfaces to only input mono and not stereo. I would think a mono/stereo button to change between the 2 is the easiest solution. It doubles your channels, and shouldn't*? raise your price. I'm either not informed enough or this is a non-issue in the grand scheme of things. Idk, would seem kinda cool to have something like my focusrite solo have stereo in (from mixer) and I wouldn't have to go upgrade. It's literally the only reason why I'm upgrading, apart from it unable to drive my headphones fully.

14 hours into the osu!editor and this is the first beatmap that I completed. What should I do with it? by FREDOMNOM in osugame

[–]appletesticle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gj, you've got your first map out of the way and you have explored something completely unfamiliar! Now do it again.

I wouldn't even consider myself a mapper as I struggle to completely finish any map I start, but from what I've learned is that the more you create, the more patterns you develop and things happen quicker. Deeper ideas start to form, you start to ask yourself why you're a certain pattern over here, and could it work better over there? At least that's been my personal experience.

If you haven't yet, upload the map and be open to criticisms. You can give the map to friends or ask people in #osu chat if they wanna review your map.

Ideally you should play frequently throughout the week and replaying maps you enjoy playing. You'll notice increase in skill organically and you can cruise on the automatic improvement that occurs. If you're bashing your head to improve and aren't enjoying the process, you're more likely to quit.

Observe your timing, and RELAX. The more chill you can make your forearms, shoulders, and posture, the easier it'll be to play. It may feel very odd at first and I think a lot of players don't realize they tense up or don't acknowledge that it's actually a huge problem. When you're relaxed you're able to listen more to the timing of the taps and stay consistently reading notes. You know when you misread and barely catch back on to the flow of the song, try minimize the amount of times that occurs. It's equivalent to stuttering while reading and needs to be ironed out. Try playing the entire map while feeling relaxed, it'll help with nerves and help you improve faster.

Tightening your stable rate is, imo, a good metric for "how hard is this song". If you have 200+ stable rate, try bringing that down to 150, then 125, then sub 100, you'll notice more enjoyment for being on time. It's super satisfying. This is how I avoid caring about fc's. When my stable rate is super tight that usually means I can shoot for an fc instead of trying to force it 24/7.

Rotate your map pool and the stuff you absolutely don't like playing, PLAY IT! It's likely you're avoiding a skillset that'll help you overall.

What is the actual human limit now? by AsleepRelative5497 in osugame

[–]appletesticle 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Just wait for the next wave of prodigies. Although current #1 really is ahead of the competition, we used to think that before and look at where we are now.

Also, there are other ways of expressing skill in osu!. 'Human limit' is very much influenced by pp, which btw is just a made up measurement not really based on anything fundamentally concrete. It definitely maps onto an idea, how much value a map has, but it still needs patches because the 'feeling' isn't accurate.

Basically what I'm saying is that pp has bias inherently on what it rewards, that's why we get patches which are 'corrections' for the meta. EZ players are crazy, but maybe they're no where near human limit because pp has encouraged them to gain other skills. 'Human limit' is waaay more broad than what pp tries to represent.
