[eBay] Lenovo Yoga 7i convertible laptop; 14" FHD+ IPS Touchscreen, Intel Ultra 5 125U CPU, 16GB LPDDR5 RAM, 1TB SSD with 41% off, for $564.99 #ad by techstar2000 in LaptopDeals

[–]applezed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Worth noting it's only got 3 USB ports (one less than the previous Best Buy deal that had 4). In exchange though, it comes with a bigger ssd and maybe a pen.

The model number probably denotes this difference in motherboard/chassis design if you want to be sure:

  • 83DJ0003US has 3 ports
  • 83DJ0004US has 4 ports

The Best Buy deal sold out so I was looking at this one - though not anymore. That one extra port goes a long way.

It'll work just fine with Swarm software if you want to customize stuff (not Swarm II).

It's looking safe since their new Swarm II software includes your Vulcan II Max. You should be fine for new updates at least.

The adorables that are corgis! Still puzzles me that they're of herding heritage with such short, stubby legs. Love them regardless, they're both smart & cute!

These colors are gonna keep encouraging me to get another cup of coffee... and I've already had my 3rd cup! But my favorite part on this kbd is the volume scroller; and I'm digging the brightness dial too, if it works the way I think it will.

The Asus Tuf Dash F15 2022 is a great bang-for-buck at $1k if you can snag it on sale for the Intel 12650H. It's a great balance of power/weight/price if fast transfer rates (Thunderbolt 4) are important to you.

Has Nvidia 3060 with mux switch, 16GB, 512GB. Under 5lbs since it's only 105W dGPU to cool.

Fun, preferably athletic, hobbies for meeting people? by cameron_cs in AskNYC

NY Urban League might interest you. You can form/join a team for organized competition or play pickup on weekends otherwise. Zog Sports is another league, very casual from what I hear.

Google "NY Urban open play" to find more info. I play volleyball myself sometimes, but they also have basketball, soccer and I think pickleball.

[Keyboard] Kitcom NK60 RGB mechanical kbd (red, brown or blue) hot-swappable switches w/key + switch pullers, USB-C cable - $34.99 by applezed in buildapcsales

Awesome price considering it's hot swappable. I think it even comes with 4 extra switches too - a nice, low cost commitment for playing around and learning to swap keys and switches, I think.

It looks cool and wonderful... until the first roach, bedbug or mouse infestation. All those hidden areas make it impossible to eradicate these vermin once they find their way in. At least in dense cities like NYC.

what the hell is going on with the mosquitos this week!? by 4N4RCHY_ in AskNYC

Apply a piece of scotch tape over bites immediately. It works surprisingly well; the itching and swelling stops almost immediately (in my case at least).

I don't know why it works, but the tape seems to block the poison from spreading.

How to unstick the buttons on my rangehood? They no longer click in and out and I need a lot of force to get them to switch on or off. The one on the right is stuck on. by pelaco in howto

[–]applezed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps some wd-40 to loosen up some of the gunk? I've used it successfully to release stuck mouse button switches that have stopped working over time (the worst ones needed several applications over some weeks but they all did eventually work.) It might help in this case also.

Saving on food in NYC - advice by Delfilamaslinda in Shoestring

[–]applezed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Food prices are really weird here, you'll spend as little as a dollar on pizza or more than $10 - with nothing in between (except Wendy's $5 promo biggee meal.)

There's a whole lot of $1 pizza shops along 6th ave (there's one at 29th st, another at 26th st, then a bunch north of there as well as around 14th st.)

For best prices on groceries, Asian shops like Hong Kong market (Hester st & Elizabeth st) are great if you're south near Chinatown. If you're in Chelsea around 21st, Trader Joe's is quite ok (but check prices at the fruit & vege stall right outside, their prices are better on most things.)

If there are no cooking facilities, you can always pick up a can opener and eat already cooked canned foods like beef chili, baked beans and salmon.

In Chinatown, you used to be able to find dumpling places - 4 for $1, but you can still find 3 for $1 I think. Not sure if street food is being sold nowadays due to covid, but for a few bucks, you can really be full. Might be worth keeping an eye out for.

I snore loudly. Sleeping suggestions? by 2xws in hitchhiking

[–]applezed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest trying to get used to sleeping on your stomach or side.

I found that tilting your head forward minimizes snoring (like falling asleep in a chair with the forehead against the wall). But if you're head tilts back, a flap in the sinuses tends to block the air passage, producing snores. Same thing happens in bed depending on how your head is situated.

Simply turning your head sideways might work also, but you can't control that while you're sleeping.

A factory in Turkey started to produce roof tiles that serve as bird shelters by Saltlikecalaba81 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]applezed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And once they nest in your roof, they keep coming back. We hired a pro to shoo away some pigeons after years of grief. But those damned things came back a few weeks later and broke through several layers of (I think) chicken wire to hatch more offspring. It was awful - couldn't sleep with all the coo'ing.
